How was the god Dionysus born?

In Greek mythology, Dionysus is the god of viticulture and winemaking.

This is the history of its origin. Zeus had a secret love affair with the Theban princess Semele, taking the form of a mortal. Seized with jealousy, Hera, the wife of the Thunderer, turning into an old neighbor, advised Semele, who was already six months pregnant, to set a condition for her mysterious lover: let him reveal his true appearance - otherwise how would she know that he is not a freak?

Semele listened to the advice and when Zeus refused her this request, she did not want to share a bed with him. Then the enraged god appeared before her in a roar of thunder and a flash of lightning and incinerated her and her tower. Zeus managed to grab a premature fetus from the flame and sewed it into his thigh. At the proper time, he gave birth to Dionysus by unraveling the stitches on his thigh.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Why the LED does not shine at full power 25.09.2009

It is believed that LEDs are exactly the source of light that can save a huge amount of electricity that is now spent on heating the tungsten filament in incandescent lamps. However, experts know that there is a catch here.

It turns out that each LED has its own luminosity limit, and only up to this limit it consumes little energy. And to make it glow brighter, you need to spend not just more energy, but much more, and then it becomes more expensive than an incandescent lamp.

Scientists debate the causes, and Wells science journalist and former physicist Richard Stevenson summarized their thinking in an article in the August issue of IEEE Spectrum. It turns out that there are three points of view. The discoverer of the blue nitride diode, Shuji Nakamura and his colleagues, believe that defects are the reason: if there are few of them, electrons and holes cannot find enough places to meet and give rise to a quantum of light.

Other scientists believe that charge carriers leak out of the diode and therefore cannot meet. According to others, as a result of such a meeting, not photons, but phonons, sound vibrations, may arise. Apparently, before the answer to this question is received, it is too early to divide the multibillion-dollar market for new lighting devices, and even more so to ban incandescent lamps.
