The first wife of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich was Maria Dolgorukaya. The marriage took place in September 1624, but the very next day after the wedding, the newlywed went to bed and died in January 1625. Few doubted that this mysterious illness and death in the royal palace could not have done without the assistance of ill-wishers. A year later, in January 1626, Mikhail Fedorovich entered into a new marriage. The choice of the second wife of the king was accompanied by unusual circumstances.

According to the custom (by no means fabulous), messengers scattered throughout Russia to call brides worthy of the king to the bride. At the appointed time, 60 noble girls, surrounded by their parents and relatives - boyars and noble nobles - gathered in the palace. But none of them pleased the king. A way out of the difficulty was offered by the king's mother, nun Martha. The bridegroom must be repeated, but in the absence of relatives and at night, in order to consider the girls sleeping, when their "faces are not embarrassed and not clouded with excitement and expectation."

Only contenders for the title of queen were left in the palace and with them one servant each. When the palace fell into a night's sleep, the king, accompanied by his mother, began a fateful detour. They slowly walked past sleeping, or rather pretending to sleep, girls: how could one fall asleep on such a night! After the round, the mother turned to her son with questions about who his choice fell on.

How amazed she was when she heard that the maid of one of the noble girls had become his chosen one. The mother begged the tsar to change his mind and think about how the princes and boyars would be offended by his choice. But Mikhail Fedorovich remained firm and inexorable.

It soon became clear that the girl who liked the tsar was a distant relative and namesake living with the Streshnevs, the daughter of an obscure Mozhaisk nobleman. It is difficult for her in a non-native house, where sometimes her rich relative, who has come to the bride, treats her coolly. But the young girl meekly and meekly endures all life's hardships. This information further strengthened the king's determination to marry this particular girl. The persuasions of the mother were broken by the last argument: we ourselves suffered so much, is it really possible to reject the chosen one of the heart only because of her poverty and misfortunes? In the morning, the decision of the king was solemnly announced in the palace and to the people.

The noble young ladies, having said goodbye to the hope of becoming a queen, successively approached to kiss the hand of the happy chosen one - Evdokia Lukyanovna Streshneva. And the Russian Cinderella could not believe in the miracle that had happened to her. She hugged and kissed each one. Yesterday's mistress of the royal bride with sobs threw herself at her feet, begging for forgiveness. The meek and compassionate Evdokia, without holding any malice, lifted her up and urged her to share her unexpected joy with her. They say that Lukyan Streshnev, the father of the chosen queen, was found by the messengers of Mikhail Fedorovich in the field behind a plow, which he did not want to leave in any way, in a hurry to plow the field.

Mikhail Fedorovich and Evdokia Lukyanovna lived happily, in peace and harmony, over time they had three boys and seven girls.

They started experimenting on animals. And in the XNUMXth century, the manufacture of medicines moved from private pharmacists to industrial companies.
