How did cutlery originate?

The way in which a person eats characterizes the degree of his civilization. Since ancient times, various devices have been invented to make it more convenient to eat. A tool resembling a spoon has existed since the Stone Age. Everyone knows that thousands of years ago the Egyptians invented spoons made of wood, stone, ivory and used them.

The Greeks and Romans used bronze and silver spoons. Many of them are beautiful, real works of art. In the Middle Ages, bone, wood, tin, tin were used to make spoons, and the rich could afford silver spoons.

Knives and forks have also come into use since ancient times. Some believe that the first fork was a stick with prongs, others attribute its appearance to an arrow. The first real fork was long, with two prongs, and was needed for cooking, especially when roasting meat.

The fork appeared on dining tables already in a new era. But even 300 years ago, knives and forks on the tables seemed ridiculous and funny. In England they were very rare. In France, they ate with their hands until the 300th century. The knife originated from a piece of bone or stone, sharpened on one side. It was one of the first inventions of man. The appearance of the knife on the tables also happened about XNUMX years ago.

Dishes for ancient people were objects of natural origin surrounding them. For example, a wide leaf served as a plate, the vessels were made from an empty gourd, and a coconut cut in half was a cup.

When people began to make dishes, pots, cups and plates appeared. Very often they were amazing in form and decoration. Many of them have survived to this day - antique Greek, Roman and Egyptian vases, bowls and vessels - masterpieces of art.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

4 Gb LPDDR8 DRAM Mobile Memory Chips 03.01.2014

Samsung announced the development of the industry's first 4Gb LPDDR8 DRAM memory chip. Samsung LPDDR4 DRAM with 8Gb density is designed for mobile devices. According to Samsung, its use will improve the performance of mobile devices, improve user response, implement new features, and increase screen resolution.

The microcircuit of the maximum density for today is designed for production according to the 20-nanometer class process technology. Four chips with a density of 8 Gbps allow you to get 4 GB in one package. The chips use the LVSTL (Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic) interface, originally proposed by Samsung to the JEDEC organization and becoming part of the LPDDR4 DRAM standard.

It provides data transfer rates of 3200 Mbps, twice the speed of commercially available LPDDR3 DRAM. In general, LPDDR4 outperforms LPDDR3 and DDR3 by 50%, consuming about 40% less power, since it operates at 1,1V.

The manufacturer notes that the new memory will help it focus on high-end mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and ultra-thin laptops with Ultra HD screens.
