Focus Description:

After shuffling and lifting the deck, the magician draws one card from the middle of it and holds it in his right raised hand, facing the audience. He hides the rest of the deck in his pants pocket or gives it to his assistant. Suppose the performer is holding a vinay lady. Then he makes a sharp wave of his hand from top to bottom and back - in his hands he already has ten reds. After a short pause, another sharp wave follows - and the magician holds the king of clubs. A pause, a wave - and the king turns into a jack of diamonds. Another wave - and in the hands of the illusionist is a lady of wine. He hides the map in his breast pocket and, bowing, goes backstage.

Focus secret:

It is enclosed in a special device of our map. To make it, we need as many as four cards: in our case, this is the queen of wines, the ten of hearts, the king of clubs and the jack of diamonds. Maps must be satin, others are not suitable for our purposes. First of all, each card will have to be stratified with a knife, separating it from the shirt (back) - fig. 35, A. Then, exactly in the middle, the cards are bent at a right angle (Fig. 35, B). Next, the folded cards are glued together in the form of a kind of turntable-book, shown in Figure 35, B.

Having glued together the halves of two cards, they are well dried under pressure; then a third card is glued to them and the glued part is also dried under pressure; the fourth card, closing the turntable, is glued immediately to two other cards and is therefore dried under a press in a straightened position.

During the performance of the trick, the artist keeps the cards folded flat, as shown in fig. 35, D. Making sharp waves with his hand, the performer manages at this time to lower the upper half of the card facing the audience down, and raise the lower half of the back card up - in fig. 35, D this is indicated by arrows. In this way, new cards appear in the hands of the illusionist each time. This manipulation is not as complicated as it may seem when describing it. In practice, you will master it after a few rehearsals.

It remains for us to tell you how the deck of cards is shuffled along with the dissected card (turntable) and how the artist finds it in the middle of the deck. First of all, the prepared card is placed under the bottom of the deck. When shuffling the deck, the magician holds it face down in his left hand. Holding the bottom card with his fingertips, he pulls the cards from the middle of the pack and throws them up, so that the bottom (prepared) card remains in place all the time. If the deck is usually removed, then, taking part of the cards from the top of the deck, they are shifted down, but our artist did quite the opposite: he shifted a stack of cards from the bottom of the deck to the top of it; at the same time, between these parts of the deck, he laid the little finger of his left hand in the same way as they do when performing a volt. Thanks to this, the magician easily found the dissected card in the middle of the deck - it lay on top of the little finger of his left hand, which held the cards. When pulling out this card, the performer held the deck vertically so that the audience could not see the secret of the card.
