We bring to your attention the aircraft model "Firefly-1", which, I think, will be of interest to many novice modellers.

"Firefly-1" is made of plywood 3-3,5 mm thick. Its mass with an engine of 1,5-2,5 cm3 is about 400 g. The details are cut with a jigsaw. The trailing edges of the wing consoles and the elevator are pointed, the front ones are rounded. After processing the parts with sandpaper, they are coated with liquid nitro glue.

Under-engine plates (6 pcs.) Are interconnected and attached to the wing with nitro-glue and screws.

The "boar" of the control is pressed with threads with glue to the elevator. To do this, a narrow cut 1 mm wide is made on it (for the passage of a needle and thread). Then the model is covered with smooth colored paper (for children's applications). The letters and numbers on the wing are also paper. They mean the initials of the student and the serial number of his model. Paper and letters are glued with liquid nitro glue.

After complete drying, a cord bracket is attached to the wing with threads and the elevator is tied. It is advisable to make holes in it in advance, before covering the model with paper.

The control rocker is fastened with a screw (Ø 3, length 15-20 mm) through the wing into the under-engine bar. Don't forget to glue the plywood shim to it.

The control rod is made of soft steel wire Ø 1,5-2 mm. Bends on it are performed with narrow pliers at an angle of 90 °. The fuel tank is soldered from tinplate. Tubes copper Ø 3 mm. One of them, which feeds the engine, is connected to it with a cambric with an internal hole of Ø 1,5 mm. The tank is fixed on the model with threads and four nails, obliquely driven into the sub-engine bars. The threads are impregnated with liquid nitro glue.

Before the first launches, it is recommended to limit the rotation of the control rocker so that the elevator from the middle position deviates only upwards. This eliminates the rough "pecking" of the model, which is typical for beginners.

Before flying with a 6-8 kg dynamometer, be sure to check the strength of the control system. Launch the model by hand on cords made of mackay linen thread, 8-12 m long. It is better to fly on a soft grassy area. This protects the model during landing.

Be sure to mark the outer contour and center of the site with bright flags.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Mitsubishi Electric technology monitors the attentiveness of the driver 31.10.2015

Mitsubishi Electric has unveiled technology that will monitor driver alertness and fatigue while driving using a machine algorithm known as "deep learning".

According to representatives of the company, there were no such solutions in the automotive industry before. The technology introduced by Mitsubishi Electric monitors the speed, trajectory, smoothness of the steering wheel, as well as the driver's heartbeat, tilt of his head and other parameters in real time. All this helps to prevent possible traffic accidents.

Using data from previous trips, the system compares the driver's current driving behavior with that of "normal driving" and alerts them to danger in the event of deviations.

Mitsubishi Electric claims that the new technology has reduced the number of errors in predicting driver behavior by 66% compared to the previously used algorithm.

The technology will be demonstrated at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015, which will be held from October 29 to November 8. Commercial implementation of the technology is expected in 2019.
