Focus Description:

The magician shows a sealed envelope and one of the latest issues of a well-known magazine, explaining to the audience that he wrote one word on a white card in advance and put the card in the envelope. It is this envelope, the one with the card, that he immediately passes to the volunteer (hereinafter referred to as the first viewer). The magician invites the second spectator to go up on stage and assist him in demonstrating the magician's ability to "foresee future events."

The magician hands the second viewer a magazine along with a pencil or felt-tip pen. To prevent the magician from influencing the viewer's free choice of a random word in the magazine, the viewer is offered to hold the magazine behind his back and mark the random word with an X. After the closed magazine is returned to the magician, he asks the first viewer to open the envelope and read the predicted word aloud. Then the magician opens the magazine on the page where the mark X is made. The audience is amazed: exactly at the intersection of the X lines is the word written on the card.

Focus secret:

(A) Take one of the latest issues of the magazine. Unfold about the middle and draw a large X on the right page. Place the mark so that its center is directly on the word, as shown in the figure. Hereinafter, this word - the word "news" - we will call the "Forced Choice Word".

(B) First try to mark the word by holding the magazine behind your back. We recommend making several trials to make the X look similar to the cross that the viewer should get as a result of the same procedure. When you think you're ready, copy your cross into a magazine that you'll take with you on stage. The cross should be drawn in uneven lines, taking into account the fact that it will be drawn behind the back. Never place the center of the cross exactly in the middle of the "Forced Choice Word". Let the center either hook on the end of the word, or lie a little higher or lower, not close enough for everyone to agree - the word is marked just that.

(C) Print "Forced Choice Word" on a white card and seal the divination card in an opaque envelope.

(D) Last step: prepare an analog pencil (or pen) that does not write. Consequently, the viewer will not be able to make notes in the journal. The pencil or pen must match exactly with the pencil or pen that you are to mark in the journal.

1. Show a sealed envelope with a card containing the predicted word. Hand it to the audience in the audience. Take a magazine and demonstrate how the viewer should mark a word on one of its pages. Tell the viewer that it is desirable for him to flip through the magazine, holding it behind his back. When he chooses a page, show him how to fold the magazine with the left side page down. Thus, you will force him to make a note on the right page of the journal. Don't call the pages "left" or "right": just show what the viewer needs to do when they mark and it ends up on the right page.

2. After making sure that the viewer has correctly understood what and how he has to do, hand him the prepared pencil or pen. At this point, it is appropriate to use the "pencil swap" trick from the "Double X Super Mystery" trick. Invite him to put the magazine behind his back, select a page (right), fold the magazine so that the left page is at the bottom, and put a large X on the page. A prepared pencil or pen will not leave marks on the page.

3. Ask him to close the magazine right behind his back before he takes it out. Take both a pencil and a magazine from the viewer. After completing this operation, immediately put the pencil or pen in your pocket. (If needed later, you will get another writing pencil from this pocket.)

4. Pay attention to the sealed envelope held by one of the spectators in the hall. Emphasize that the envelope was given to him before the note was made in the journal! Invite the spectator to open the envelope and read the word written on the card aloud.

5. Return the magazine to the viewer who made a note on the page, inviting him to find it by leafing through the magazine until he sees with his own hand (as he thinks) the cross he put X. When he finds it, ask him to read the word that is in cross hairs. It will match the word written on the fortune card!

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

pineapple leaf paper 28.11.2019

The Philippines created Pinyapel paper from pineapple leaves with the assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Design Center of the Philippines (DCP).

Cagayan De Oro Handmade Paper Company representative Lolita "Luchi" Cabanlet was able to create "Pinyapel", a locally produced specialty paper made from discarded pineapple leaves from plantations in Bukidnon. The name pinyapel was coined in the DCP, the neologism came from a combination of two Filipino words pinya (pineapple) and papel (paper), zerno-ua.com reports.

Pinyapel pineapple material is water resistant and is an excellent base for making paper cups, paper bags, and other food containers.
