What is the TNT equivalent?

TNT equivalent is the energy characteristic of an explosion of a nuclear or thermonuclear charge.

Quantitatively, the TNT equivalent is equal to the mass of the conventional charge of the chemical explosive trinitrotoluene (TNT), the explosive decomposition energy of which is equal to the energy released in a given nuclear explosion. The TNT equivalent is measured in kilotons (thousand tons) and megatons (millions of tons).

A nuclear explosion of one kilogram of uranium-235 or plutonium-239 with complete fission of all nuclei is equivalent in terms of the amount of energy released to a chemical explosion of 20 thousand tons of trinitrotoluene.

What is the deepest ocean?

The oceans remain a mystery to us in many ways. We don't even know the age of the oceans. It is quite possible that oceans did not exist in the early stages of the Earth's development.

Today, man explores the ocean floor in order to better study them. Up to a depth of 3600 m, the bottom of the oceans is covered with soft silty sediments. They consist of calcareous skeletons of the smallest marine animals. At depths exceeding 6 km, the bottom is covered with fine reddish silt, called "red clay". It consists of particles of animal skeletons, the remains of small plants and volcanic ash.

Currently, the depth of the oceans is measured by sending sound waves into the depths and receiving the reflected signal. To do this, measure the time during which the sound wave reaches the bottom and, after reflection, returns after that, the time value is divided in half.

Based on these measurements, we have a pretty good idea of the average depth of the various oceans, as well as their deepest points. The deepest is the Pacific Ocean, its average depth is 4281 m. Next comes the Indian Ocean with an average depth of 3963 m. Then comes the Atlantic Ocean with an average depth of 3926 m. For comparison: the Baltic Sea has an average depth of only 55 m!

To date, the deepest place in the oceans is known - in the region of the Guam Islands - 10 m. Another deepest place is located in the Atlantic Ocean near the Guam Islands - here the depth reaches 790 m. 9219 m

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Computer access under control 11.11.2004

To prevent the databases of the Criminal Investigation and other intelligence agencies from being sold openly, as happens in some countries, 160 senior Mexican law enforcement officials, including the Attorney General, received special implants.

A microcircuit the size of a grain of rice, planted under the skin of the wrist, responds to a radio signal sent by a special sensor in the office computer's keyboard and tells the computer the user's individual number. So access to official information on criminals from the database of the Ministry of Justice is received only by those who are allowed to do so.

Moreover, the computer registers who requested what data, and in case of leakage, the culprit will be found.
