Where is Golgotha located?

The Christian Quarter is located in the northwestern part of Jerusalem. There is the main shrine of the Christian world - the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It stands on the hill of Calvary, on which, according to legend, Christ was crucified. A modest gate leads to the temple. Immediately behind them is a low oblong slab, lined with marble today. According to legend, the body of Christ was placed here before burial.

In the center of a dark, majestic hall, the vault of which rests on many columns, stands a small chapel of pink marble, Kuvuklia, set up by the tomb of the Lord. The tomb itself is small - two meters long and one and a half meters wide. There is a marble tombstone embedded in the wall.

The entire Church of the Holy Sepulcher is divided into aisles belonging to different areas of Christianity. The place where the cross stood, on which Christ was crucified, marked with a silver disk with a hole in the middle, belongs to the Orthodox Church. The katholikon (the main building of the temple) also belongs to the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, it houses the center of the Earth (according to Christian tradition), marked by a small marble bowl with a ball inside, on which a cross is inscribed.

A staircase of 29 steps leads down from Golgotha to the Church of St. Helena. From this temple, 13 iron steps lead to the cave of Finding the Cross, where, according to legend, they found the cross on which Christ was crucified.

Under Golgotha there is also a chapel of the forefather Adam, the first man created by God. After being expelled from paradise, he settled in Jerusalem. Adam predicted that if Christ was crucified, the stone foundation of Golgotha would crack. In the chapel, through a glass window, a crevice is visible, which was allegedly formed during an earthquake that occurred during the execution of Christ.

Where did the train crash happen due to the language barrier?

In 2001, there was a railway accident in Belgium in which 8 people, including both drivers, were killed as a result of a head-on collision of trains. Among other accidents, this one is unique in that its main cause was the language barrier. When the driver of the first train left the station despite the red traffic light, the dispatcher called the next station to warn about it. However, the controllers did not understand each other, as one spoke French and the other Dutch. Both of these languages are official in Belgium, and according to the rules of the railway company, staff must know at least one of them.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Remote shutdown of car engines 09.02.2014

In Europe, they may pass a law according to which the sale of cars not equipped with a remote engine shutdown system will be prohibited in the local market. This technology is currently being developed by a group called Enlets.

This is reported by The Telegraph, which received confidential documents. All vehicles produced in Europe for the local market can be equipped with the system. At the same time, it is planned to legally prohibit the import into Europe of cars that are not equipped with such a system.

The system is capable of shutting off the fuel supply and blocking the ignition. The system can be activated at the request of the police by the dispatcher working at the central control panel.

The developers suggest that the innovation will make it possible to significantly simplify the capture of criminals trying to escape by car. The system will eliminate the use of traditional methods such as spiked tapes and shooting at tires with firearms, which will reduce the damage received by vehicles and people during the chase.

It is planned to complete the development of the system within 6 years. By around 2019, a law is due to be introduced that would ban the sale of vehicles that are not properly equipped in Europe.
