What is the first space velocity?

The first cosmic speed is the minimum speed that must be reported to any physical body (for example, a spacecraft) located in the gravitational field of a celestial object (for example, a planet or a star) in order for this body to become a satellite of a celestial object.

On the surface of the Earth (at sea level), the first cosmic velocity is 7,91 kilometers per second (in this case, the Earth is considered to be absolutely smooth and devoid of an atmosphere). With increasing distance from the attracting object, the first escape velocity decreases. So, at an altitude of 300 kilometers above the Earth's surface (sea level), the first cosmic velocity is 7,73 kilometers per second, at an altitude of 1000 kilometers - 4,94 kilometers per second.

The first cosmic velocity on the surface of the Moon is 1,68 kilometers per second.

What is the Riddle of the Nile?

Perhaps you do not know that the great African river Nile has its own mystery. In any case, one circumstance concerning the great river has puzzled people for thousands of years. Every year, starting in July, the water level in the Nile begins to rise and in October it becomes 7,5 m higher than in May.

During the flood season, the Nile overflows its banks and brings silt to the fields, which is an excellent fertilizer. This phenomenon - such a significant rise in water in the river - is very unusual, because in Egypt it almost does not rain! Therefore, for hundreds of years people have wondered what is the reason for the annual floods of the Nile.

The answer to the "riddle of the Nile" was found only in the XIX century. The Nile is the longest river in the world. Its length from south to north is 6500 km. It flows mainly through the territory of Sudan and Egypt - states located in northwestern Africa. The annual floods of the Nile have created a fertile valley that runs like a narrow ribbon along the river, surrounded by a hot, arid, and barren desert.

The first people settled in this valley many thousands of years ago. The Nile River is fed from two main sources - the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile flows out of Lake Victoria in Uganda. It has a calm, even flow and does not affect the change in the water level in the Nile. During April and May, when the Nile reaches its lowest point, 85 percent of it comes from the White Nile.

What about the Blue Nile? It originates in the highlands of Ethiopia, where it rains heavily and snow melts in the mountains. When this rainy season comes, the amount of water in the Blue Nile increases dramatically and this causes the Nile to flood. So simply solved the riddle over which people have puzzled for so long.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Time in nature is perceived differently 06.04.2024

In today's world, saturated with technology and the fast pace of life, the perception of time plays a key role in our daily experience. However, new research by scientists has revealed that our perception of time can change significantly depending on the environment around us. This impact is especially noticeable from nature.

A study led by psychologist Ricardo Correia from the University of Turku in Finland found an interesting connection between our perception of time and exposure to natural environments. Scientists have found that time seems to pass slower when we are outdoors, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Walking through the countryside or spending time in green parks creates the feeling that time is increasing. This effect of nature extends not only to current moments, but also to our perception of the past and future. Through contact with nature, we become less prone to instant gratification, preferring long-term goals.

Why does nature have such an impact on our perception of time? This is due to the many benefits that come from being in a natural environment. Scientists note that nature helps reduce anxiety, improve sleep and overall well-being. These factors influence how we perceive the past, present and future.

However, access to nature is not always easy, especially for city dwellers. Creating green spaces in urban areas is becoming increasingly important to make the benefits of nature available to everyone. For those who don't have access to nature often, other strategies can help, such as time-use audits or reducing time spent on digital devices.

Nature has a significant impact on our perception of time and overall well-being. Understanding this connection can help us manage our time more effectively and strive for a more balanced lifestyle.
