Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. SkyOrbiter drones will provide Internet access 26.09.2014

The Portuguese company Quarkson proposes to use an army of SkyOrbiter unmanned aerial vehicles to provide Internet access to residents of sparsely populated, remote and hard-to-reach regions.

SkyOrbiter drones fall into two categories: low altitude and high altitude. The first family includes six devices - LA25, LA35, LA45, LA55, LA65 and LA75. The numbers in the designations indicate the size and maximum time spent in the air. So, the younger version, LA25, has a wingspan of 25 meters and can stay in the airspace for two weeks. For the LA75 model, these figures are 75 meters and seven weeks, respectively. All drones are designed to operate at altitudes up to 3500 meters.

The second family of drones includes modifications HA55, HA65 and HA75 with a wingspan of 55 to 75 meters. They can stay in the air for up to five years, with a maximum altitude of 22 meters.

It is assumed that the drones will carry on board the equipment necessary for the transmission of Internet data. The payload mass depends on the SkyOrbiter model. In addition to providing access to the Network, drones can perform other tasks, including aerial photography, environmental monitoring, surveillance, etc.

We add that the Google search corporation also intends to use drones to organize Internet access in remote regions. To do this, in the spring it acquired Titan Aerospace, which is the developer of Solara 50 and Solara 60 drones with an array of solar panels. The devices can remain in the air for up to five years, carrying up to 100 kg of cargo on board.
