Ancient Greek and Roman mythology
Phraseologism: Hydra.
Meaning: A hostile force, the fight against which is unusually difficult.
Origin: In Greek mythology, the hydra is a multi-headed snake, in which, when one head was cut off, two new ones grew again, for the first time the myth about it was conveyed by the ancient Greek poet Hesiod (VIII-VII century BC) in Theogony. The image of the hydra was widely used in parliamentary speeches, brochures and newspapers in the era of the French Revolution of the 1931th century, the expressions "hydra of the aristocracy", "hydra of anarchy", etc. appeared (Paul Lafargue, Works, vol.
