Storm the sky

Ancient Greek and Roman mythology
Ancient Greek and Roman mythology

Phraseologism: Storm the sky.

Meaning: Build and implement the most daring plans.

Origin: From a letter from Karl Marx (1818-1883) to a member of the First International Ludwig Kugelmann dated April 12, 1871. Marx writes about the heroes of the Paris Commune, who, unlike the cowardly inhabitants, are ready to "storm the sky", that is, to do the impossible: "Let them compare with these Parisians ready to storm the sky, the serfs of the German-Prussian Holy Roman Empire with its antediluvian masquerades reeking of barracks, church, Junkerism, and most of all philistinism. Probably, this expression is based on the famous ancient Greek myth about Icarus.

Random phraseology:

The transformation of Saul into Paul.

Meaning:

1. About the moral rebirth of a person, the change in his principles. 2. About ideological, political and other renegade, when, for selfish reasons, a person turns from an opponent of someone (something) into a devoted supporter, or vice versa (ironic, contempt.).

Origin:

From the Bible. In the New Testament, in the Acts of the Holy Apostles, it is told how a certain Jew Saul (Saul) fiercely persecuted Christians, and after he had a wonderful vision and heard a voice coming from heaven, he accepted Christianity along with the new name Paul, given to him at baptism (9:3-6): "And as he was walking and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven shone on him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul! why are you persecuting me? He said "Who are you, Lord? The Lord said: I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is difficult for you to go against the pricks. He said in trembling and horror: Lord! What will you command me to do?". Saul was told to go into the city. There, the disciple of Jesus Ananias came to him and "... laying his hands on him, he said: Brother Saul! The Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the path you were walking, sent me so that you could receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. fell away from his eyes, and suddenly he received his sight, and rising up, he was baptized..." (9:17-18). "And immediately he began to preach in the synagogues about Jesus, that he is the son of God. And all who heard were amazed and said: Is this not the same one who persecuted those who call on this name in Jerusalem? .." (9:20-21).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Compact dishwasher does not require electricity 13.09.2015

A more or less normal dishwasher costs at least 300 USD, which is not so cheap, especially for students. That is why an Israeli student named Chen Levin came up with a dishwasher that does not use electronics and electricity.

In a sense, Levin "invented the wheel," as his machine, called the Circo, is powered by a crank that resembles a bicycle pedal. The idea of the mechanism is similar to a conventional dishwasher, since Circo has something like a centrifuge that sprays water from below. The inventor keeps the details of the design a secret due to the fact that he intends to attract investments and commercialize the device. However, according to him, it takes one minute to wash a full rack of dishes.

The stand is a conventional dish dryer, which is placed inside the device on a base filled with water. Sodium acetate tablets, commonly used in households as a component of chemical heating pads or heaters, should be added to the water to be heated, which also helps with cleaning dishes. Unlike a conventional dishwasher, which consumes about 10 liters of water, the Circo uses only 3 liters.

The creation of a hand car is part of an international design trend called Power from the People. The slogan plays on the slogan "Power to the people", put forward by Lenin and translated by Lennon as Power to the People, which can also be interpreted as "Energy to the People". Power from the People, accordingly, means receiving energy from the people through the use of the users' own efforts. The most impressive of these efforts is the attempt by the students of the University of Warwick (UK) to create a submarine, which is set in motion by the navigator lying in it using pedals attached to the rear propellers.
