Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Interactive TV Hybridcast 03.06.2012

The Japanese broadcaster NHK has introduced the Hybridcast interactive television platform, the main idea of the project is to combine the capabilities of traditional television and the Internet. This opens up opportunities for the creation of numerous services, the potential of which is almost unlimited.

The largest Japanese electronics manufacturers, including Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Sharp and Mitsubishi Electric, took part in the work on the Hybridcast project. The presentation used modified versions of televisions and set-top boxes that are already on sale, and NHK took over the development of the software platform. The Hybridcast platform runs HTML5 web applications that are controlled by a tablet computer.

When viewing a travel program, the user can open a map that shows the location of the heroes of the program. The platform also allows the viewer to answer live quiz questions as they are broadcast, and while watching sports, the players' names and basic information about the players on the field can be displayed on the TV screen. At the same time, the data is shown directly on the TV screen and accompanies the players, as in an augmented reality application.

The authors of the project emphasize that the main advantage of the Hybridcast platform is that not only TV channels, but also other companies, such as mobile operators or software companies, can develop applications. This significantly expands the capabilities of the system, not allowing the service to depend on any one brand.
