Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Computer mouse controls biometric parameters 07.12.2014

A team of specialists from the company MionixLabs, whose activities are focused on the development of gaming peripherals, introduced the world's first "smart" mouse with a focus on the physiological aspect. NAOS QG is made on the basis of the top "rodent" Mionix NAOS, designed for use by professional gamers. The improved model has received a set of additional features, but all of them, no matter how strange it may sound, do not affect the improvement of the gameplay and increase the skill of gamers.

But the owner of NAOS QG will now be able to track heart rate readings, and the sensors built into the manipulator will read from his palm and record the results of the galvanic skin response (GSR), or, as it is also called, the electrical activity of the skin. By the way, the algorithm of the polygraph - a lie detector - takes into account GSR indicators along with measuring the pulse, processing ECG data and other physiological variables.

The obtained statistics can be used as a psychophysiological indicator and draw conclusions about the current state of a person, operating with such manifestations of the emotional state as tension, anxiety, and also fix a sharp increase in mental activity. All of these parameters are directly related to external stimuli and the internal state of the player, which is reflected in the information about the electrical activity of the skin. In a state of appeasement, tonic electrocutaneous resistance tends to a maximum value, and when awake and active, like playing on a computer, they decline.

All information collected by the system can be displayed in the form of translucent indicators of current indicators so that the gamer, without looking up from game battles, has the opportunity to compare his body's reaction to what is happening in the virtual space.
On the other hand, do gamers really need such a gadget and how useful will heart rate and GSR measurements be for them? The issue is quite complex and highly controversial.

The developers, as an example of the performance of the system they created, published on their website a graph of the heart rate of five gamers, whose readings were taken for 30 minutes. When the number of heart beats per minute of one of the participants in the experiment reached its peak values, the software took a screenshot from the game to understand the virtual factors that caused the change in heart rate.

The authors of the project "smart" computer mouse NAOS QG decided to find funding for their development on Kickstarter. The startup, called "Quantified Gaming - know more, game better", needs to raise $100 for the successful commercial implementation of the idea, of which $39 was already transferred 22 days before the end of the campaign.

The minimum cost of NAOS QG for crowdfunding participants who managed to place a pre-order on the site will be $79, and the manipulator will go to retail for $99. Deliveries of the device, subject to the receipt by the developers of the required amount, are scheduled for July 2015.
