Olive branch of the world

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: The olive branch of the world.

Meaning: A symbol of peace.

Origin: From ancient mythology. In antiquity, the olive branch symbolized peace, tranquility, peace. Therefore, it was this branch that was a constant attribute of the goddess of the world - Eirene (Greek) or Pake (Rom.). Later, this symbolism was partly inherited by the Bible. In the Old Testament, which tells about the Flood, it is told how Noah (see Noah's Ark) learned about the end of the Flood. First, while in the ark, he released a raven, which flew away and returned empty-handed. The later released dove returned empty-handed, for the water still covered the whole earth. And only seven days later, when Noah released the dove for the second time, she returned, holding an olive (oil-bearing) branch. So Noi learned that the water subsided and the tops of the trees appeared, and the olive branch itself became a symbol of calming the elements and God's forgiveness of people and, accordingly, the onset of a peaceful, calm life. Thanks to the popularity of the Bible, this image - a dove with an olive branch in its beak - has firmly entered European culture, but is already used outside of a religious context as a generally recognized symbol of peace.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
