Russia can only be defeated by Russia

Johann Friedrich Schiller
Johann Friedrich Schiller

Phraseologism: Russia can only be defeated by Russia.

Meaning: Only the Russians themselves can destroy their state by starting civil strife, unrest, ill-conceived reforms, etc.

Origin: From the play "Dimitry" by the German poet and playwright Johann Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805), dedicated to the events of the Time of Troubles in Russia at the beginning of the XNUMXth century. and actually the impostor False Dmitry.

Random phraseology:

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.

Meaning:

About patriotic motives of actions in order to justify crimes.

Origin:

From English: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". Usually attributed to L. N. Tolstoy and interpreted incorrectly: supposedly the writer condemned patriotism as a feeling worthy only of scoundrels. The author of the expression is the English poet, critic, literary historian and lexicographer Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), who wanted to emphasize the nobility of patriotism with this phrase. And even the word "patriot" he wrote only with a capital letter. So, in the article "Patriot" (1774), which had the subtitle "Appeal to the Electors of Great Britain", S. Johnson urged his readers to elect worthy people to the English Parliament, true defenders of the interests of their country, because "only a Patriot is worthy of a seat in Parliament. Nobody no other will protect our rights, no one else will deserve our trust." And a patriot, according to S. Johnson, is one "whose public activity is determined by only one single motive - love for his country, one who, representing us in parliament, is guided in each case not by personal motives and fears, not by personal kindness or resentment, but by common interests "(quoted from: Literary newspaper. 2001. April 18-24). Thus, the author's meaning of this statement is: not everything is lost even for the most notorious villain, if a sense of patriotism is still alive in him, obeying which he can perform a good deed, a noble deed in war or in peacetime. That is, patriotism for such a person is the last chance to be morally reborn, to justify his life. Subsequently, the expression was rethought and began to be perceived as a call not to trust the big words about patriotism and civic duty. But both in the first and in the second case it does not allow a scornful, derogatory interpretation of patriotism as the morality of scoundrels.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Indoor navigation 19.07.2017

ZTE Corporation announced the launch of its Indoor Intelligent Navigation, Smart Car Seeking solution.

The solution provides seamless outdoor and indoor navigation, smart vehicle location and Open Service System (COS). Using QCell indoor coverage solution, mobile edge computing (MEC) technology and IoT-based magnetic induction object detection engine, the solution for intelligent management of indoor parking (both for parking lots with a lot of parking spaces and for multi-level parking lots) requires low cost and high efficiency.

The solution allows the operator to build a modern, user-friendly and smart building by establishing a stable connection between the objects in the solution.

The use of navigation devices when driving on the street has already become an integral part of our daily life, but finding a free parking space in an underground parking often takes quite a long time. To cope with this task, ZTE's solution for organizing "smart" navigation and determining the location of the car indoors allows.

When an approaching vehicle is detected, the QCell interior coverage system automatically reports this to the MEC system. This ensures high accuracy of indoor navigation, guarantees the possibility of reserving a parking space and planning the route of the car.

Modern underground parking lots are often multi-level, and their area can exceed 10 thousand square meters. m. In such conditions, it is easy to get lost or forget exactly where the car was parked. The use of QCell allows you to track the route of the user's movement, and the mechanism based on IoT technology for detecting objects through magnetic induction determines movement algorithms, analyzes and remembers the parking place of the car.

To get detailed information about the exact location of their car and how to get to it, the client, being in the internal parking lot, just needs to scan the QR code and click on "Navi." in a dedicated application. Thus, the driver no longer needs to remember the number of the parking space, the registration number of the parking zone or the route, now it is enough to turn on the navigation and follow the system's instructions in real time.
