Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

LG to launch phone with flexible OLED display 28.04.2013

LG Electronics has announced the release of the first smartphone with a flexible screen. The vendor plans to introduce such a device on the market in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to Pocket-lint, citing Yoon Bu-hyun, vice president of LG's mobile direction. The display is planned to be manufactured using OLED technology.

Pocket-lint suggests that the new smartphone could be the Optimus G2, because according to some reports, "something special and unique" is expected in it. However, this model is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of this year, which does not correspond to the announced date for a device with a flexible display.

LG is one of the top mobile device manufacturers, but dropped out of the top five in Q2012 XNUMX to be replaced by rising Chinese vendors ZTE and Huawei, according to IDC.

Back in 2012, Samsung Electronics, the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones and smartphones, planned to release a similar device. But these plans were not destined to come true. However, in order to keep the interest in flexible devices alive, in January of this year at the CES international electronics exhibition in Las Vegas, Samsung demonstrated both flexible screens and a prototype device based on them, which, however, did not turn out to be bending. Samsung plans to be the first to start producing flexible displays - before the end of June.

LG may well overtake Samsung and release a flexible smartphone faster, as the company did with a 55-inch OLED TV last year. Both firms are specialists in the field of LED screens. And over the past couple of years, companies have even exchanged mutual claims in industrial espionage in this area.

According to analysts at the consulting company Accenture, flexible mobile phones are one of the future trends that awaits us. "The impact of this innovation on user interaction will be comparable to the revolution brought about by touch screens," said Thomas Stuermer, senior vice president of Electronics & High-Tech at Accenture. For example, by bending the device in different directions and with different force, the user will be able to control its functions.

However, Accenture predicts the appearance of the first flexible mobile phones in the consumer market only in 3-4 years.
