Focus Description:

How to make a card appear in the correct pile after the selected card has been returned to the deck, which is then shuffled and placed in three piles on the table.

Focus secret:

Ask the spectator to choose a card. When a spectator puts a card into the deck, you roll and carry it up. What follows is a fake shuffle. If some spectator wants to shuffle the deck himself, then you hide this card in your palm and give the deck. When the shuffled deck is returned to you, place a card from your hand on top.

Next, take the cards in your right hand, face down. Lay them out in piles on the table of 4-5 cards. Lastly, put the pile on top of which lies the selected card. Ask the audience to point to the pile where they want the intended card to be. Then you collect all the other stacks of cards by placing the stack with the desired card on top of the deck. You divide the selected pile into two parts and again ask the audience in which of them they want to see a card. You do this until there are only two cards left in the selected pile, but the audience should not see the exact number of cards in it. To do this, you quickly place the chosen pile in your left hand under the deck.

Now hide the selected card in the palm of your hand, let it be the king of diamonds, and taking the selected pile with the same hand, put this card on top of the pile. You place these three cards face down and ask the spectators to say which of the three cards should be chosen. If the audience points to the middle card, then the trick is over, because it is. You ask the chooser to name a card and, having shown that the side cards are not the king of diamonds, open the middle card.

If the spectators choose one of the side cards, then you collect these three cards together, with the king of diamonds again in the middle, and ask one of the spectators to blow on the cards. Then again lay out the cards, but put the king's tambourine on the place named by the audience. After that, you show two other cards, and the last one reveals the king of tambourines.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Lies change the brain 29.10.2016

Once having lied, then we lie more and more simply - for sure, many people know this from their own experience. As the experiments of researchers from University College London have shown, the reasons for this psychological effect lie in a region of the brain called the amygdala, or amygdala - often called the center of fear, but in fact the amygdala is involved in the formation of any emotions.

The man had to mislead his partner as to how many coins were in the glass. Lying was encouraged: if the other was convinced that there were more coins than in reality, the deceiver received a reward. At the same time, the brain activity of the liars was monitored using magnetic resonance imaging. It turned out that with each subsequent deception, the activity of the amygdala decreased, and, curiously, the more the activity of the amygdala fell, the greater was the next lie about coins and a glass.

Obviously, when a person lies for the first time, the amygdala "tenses up" and we feel not entirely pleasant emotions in connection with our own lies. But then something like addiction occurs, the amygdala resigns itself, and we lie without fear of discomfort. However, it is still not possible to completely suppress internal resistance: the experiment provided for the maximum level of lies about the number of coins, but no one reached it.

Note that so far we have been talking about the most unpleasant kind of lies - lies solely in our own interests. When the participants in the experiment were offered to lie in the common interest, that is, when not only the lying person, but also his partner received the benefit, the amygdala reacted less sharply, and the person in this case lied more and more willingly - most likely because the lie received some justification.

It can be assumed that social relations play a big role here: we hear from childhood that it is not good to lie, that we will be punished for lying, and our perfectly trained brain eventually remembers this as a necessary rule of life - although from time to time we have to step over it .
