Focus Description:

The performer tells the audience that he has only four cards in his hand. Shows the first, and everyone sees that this is the king of spades. Turning the cards "back" to the audience, puts the king of spades on the table and offers to remember it. Then he shows the next card - this is the king of diamonds - puts it on the table next to the king of spades, again "shirt" up. Now he shows another card - this is the king of clubs - and puts it next to the other two kings.

Finally, the performer shows the fourth card left in his hand - this is the red king. So, the audience saw that the four cards that were in the performer's hand were four kings. The king of hearts remained in his hand, while the other three lie on the illusion table. The performer turns to the audience and asks if everyone remembers which cards are on the table. The audience, of course, remember the three kings and call them in order. Then the performer invites one of the spectators to the stage and asks to open all three kings in turn. The spectator opens them, but instead of kings, there are eights on the table - each of the corresponding suit.

Focus secret:

This trick requires four eights of all suits and one king of any suit. The whole secret of the trick lies in this single king, who plays the main role. What "training" should this card go through? First of all, it is necessary to make sure that she does not have a certain suit. The icons that determine the suit of the piece are in the upper left and lower right corners of the kings. These icons are neatly cut out. But on the frame of the card there are two more small icons with a letter. They also need to be masked by pasting the frame on the card with four narrow strips of white paper (Fig. 71, A).

Thus, we will have a card with the image of a king of an unknown suit with two "windows" in the upper left and lower right corners. If one turns four different eights under this king, he will change his suit in accordance with the suit of eights visible in the "window" (Fig. 71, B).

As always, before the performance, the props are prepared for demonstration. All four eights are stacked one after the other, and the secret king is placed on top. Then this pile of five cards is placed face down on the illusion table (Fig. 71, B). Now you can start demonstrating focus. Carefully taking these cards from the table, the performer holds them all together and turns the bottom card (king) towards the audience. The audience calls her: "This is the king of spades." Then, turning the pile "back" to the audience, the performer says that he puts this king of spades on the table. In fact, the performer pushes down with the finger of his right hand through the window the first, eight of spades, following the king, and puts it on the illusion table "shirt" up. Then he shows the bottom card again - this is the king of diamonds. In the same way, he pushes out the next eight of diamonds and puts it on the table. And the audience is sure that there are already two kings on the table. Now, having shown the king of clubs, the performer pushes out the third eight and puts it on the table.

Having shown the last king with his red eight, the performer invites one of the spectators to the stage and asks to open all three cards in turn, first naming which king he opens. The spectator says: "King of spades" - and opens the eight of spades. "Now the king of tambourines" - and opens the eight of diamonds, and so on. Everyone laughs in surprise. And indeed, it is unusually spectacular, as a representative of the audience participated in the final.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Grenade design will improve Li-Ion batteries 24.02.2014

Researchers at Stanford University and the US Department of Energy's SLAC National Linear Accelerator Laboratory have announced a new development that could solve some of the traditional problems of lithium-ion batteries. They proposed a garnet-shaped electrode design (silicon nanoparticles resembling seeds packed in a hard carbon shell). This approach overcomes some of the barriers to the use of silicon in next-generation lithium-ion batteries.

Although not all problems have been solved yet, the proposed design allows us to bring the possibility of using silicon anodes in more compact, lighter and more powerful batteries for smartphones, tablets, electric vehicles. Experiments show that the garnet anode is capable of operating at 97% of its capacity even after 1 recharge cycles, making it an excellent solution for commercial applications.

According to the researchers, the silicon anode allows you to store 10 times more charge than the graphite anodes widely used in modern batteries. But it wears out pretty quickly due to numerous recharges. In addition, the reaction with the electrolyte leads to the formation of a film on the anode, which significantly worsens its properties. As the inventors explain, the proposed structure makes it possible to reduce the area of contact with the electrolyte, thereby preventing the formation of a film. Also, this approach made it possible to improve the characteristics of the electrode.

One of the problems on the way to the introduction of new technology on a mass scale remains the high cost of production. To solve it, it is necessary to simplify the production process and find a cheaper source of silicon nanoparticles.
