Focus Description:

In the hands of the performer is a deck of cards. He, smiling slyly, wants to shuffle it. But as soon as he took the cards with one hand, the ace of spades jumps out of the deck like a bullet, flying up into the air. The performer shakes his head in surprise, when suddenly another card slips out of the deck - a lady. Following her, as if on cue, the king of diamonds jumps out (Fig. 80, A).

The performer, perplexed, shrugs his shoulders and puts the cards on the table. He realized that with these cards he would not be able to show anything: they could all fly away one by one.

Focus secret:

For this trick you will need an ordinary deck of cards. The number of secret cards depends entirely on how many cards have to fly. If three cards are sent flying, then three pairs of secret cards must be prepared. To do this, six cards are taken out of the deck and laid out into three pairs. And the secret of each pair lies in a small piece of nipple gum, which is pulled through the centers of both cards. The ends of the elastic band connecting the two secret cards are tied with knots so that the elastic band does not slip out when pulled (Fig. 80, B).

Having connected each of the three pairs in this way, you can begin to "charge" the three flying cards. They are invested one in each secret pair. Entering between two cards, the "flying" card pulls down the connecting elastic band (Fig. 80, B). The edges of all three cards are carefully equalized. Now you need to firmly hold these three cards so that the "flying" card does not slip out ahead of time. The finished "charging" of three cards is placed in the middle of the first half of the deck.

Having "charged" the following cards in this way, they put them in the second half of the deck and at its very end (Fig. 80, D). Now a dense rubber ring is put on this deck in order to keep the “charging” more securely. In this form, the deck is placed in a pocket or on an illusion table.

During the demonstration of the trick, the performer takes this deck and removes the rubber ring from it. Then he holds it tightly, pressing the cards tightly against each other. Knowing in advance the location of each "charge" with a "flying" card, the performer relaxes his hand somewhat in that section of the deck where the first "flying" card is located. Her secret pair, parting somewhat, releases the rubber band, and she pushes out the first "flying" card. In the same way, two other cards fly out of the deck.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

World's largest clean energy corridor built 01.01.2023

The last power unit of the Baihetan hydroelectric power station, which ranks second in the world in terms of installed capacity, has been officially put into operation, China Three Gorges Corporation said. This event marked the completion of the world's largest clean energy corridor.

Baihetan HPP has a total of 16 domestically produced power units, each with a capacity of 1 million kW. In terms of total installed capacity, Baihetan is second only to the Sanxia (Three Gorges) HPP. In particular, its last power unit completed a 72-hour trial operation.

"The completion of the construction of the Baihetan HPP marks a major breakthrough in the production of high-tech equipment in the country. The world history of the development of hydropower has never known such powerful power units," said Lei Mingshan, chairman of the board of the corporation.

The commissioning of the Baihetan HPP is of great importance for the regulation of the country's energy structure, the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the coordinated development of the regional economy.

Currently, the list of six large hydroelectric power plants on the Yangtze River, which were built and operated by the Three Gorges Corporation, includes Udongde, Baihetan, Xilodu, Xiangjiaba, Sanxia and Gezhouba. The first four of them are located on the Jinshajiang River, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and the last two are located on the middle stretch of China's largest river.

These HPPs are capable of generating 300 billion kWh annually. electricity, which will reduce coal consumption by 90 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 248 million tons. Forming a 1800 km clean energy corridor, they also play an important role in flood control, navigation, water resource management and environmental security in the Yangtze River basin.
