EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES One card in four roles. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: After shuffling the deck, the magician selects one card and places the rest on the illusion table. The chosen card was an ace of hearts. Having shown it to the audience, the performer turns the card upside down. On it, viewers see four worms. The performer asks if they remember what was on the back of the card. Spectators, of course, answer: "Ace". And then the performer turns the card over to the side on which the ace was depicted. But the ace has disappeared, and instead of it there is already a three of hearts. - How well do you remember what was on the back of this card? - asks the performer. The audience unanimously calls the four of hearts. - You are very unobservant, - says the performer, turning the card back. It shows a six, not a four. The performer continues to demonstrate the focus. Smiling, he asks the audience to collect their thoughts, to be very attentive and remember which card was on the back. The audience quickly calls out the three of hearts. Now they remember well. But the performer turns the card over, and the audience sees the ace of hearts again. What is on the back of this card? - asks the performer. - Well, of course, six of worms! - the audience answers. - Nothing of the kind, - says the performer and turns the card over to the side on which there should be a six of hearts. But instead, viewers see four of worms. Focus secret: There is one secret card in the deck. This card is different from all the others in that it is double-sided. It is very easy to prepare. Take a sheet of thick satin card-sized paper. Two signs of worms are applied to one side. They are arranged in the same way as on the usual three of worms, which lacks one icon, that is, along the middle, vertically, one character in the center, the other at the top edge of the card. On the reverse side of this card, five signs of worms are drawn, arranging them as they are located at the six of hearts, which has one icon missing in the center of the right edge (Fig. 82, A). Now you can put this card into any deck, placed in advance on the illusion table.
During the demonstration of the trick, the performer, shuffling the deck, finds the secret card he needs. He puts all the rest back on the illusion table. Now all the attention of the performer is focused on this secret card. The fictitious ace of hearts should appear first before the viewer. To do this, the performer shows the side of the card on which two signs of worms are drawn. He must hold it with the thumb and forefinger of his right hand so that the thumb, covering the second icon on the card, is facing the audience. Then they will see only one sign of worms, located in the center of the map (Fig. 82, B). Then everything goes much easier. The performer holds the card in front of him in his right hand and sees its reverse side. Communicating with the audience, he quickly figured out how it would be more convenient for him to take the card in order to show it to the audience now from the back. His left hand is not busy. There is an empty space on the map for the left hand to show the fictitious six. And the performer takes the card from the left edge with the thumb and forefinger of the left hand in the middle, where one sign of worms is missing (Fig. 82, B). At this moment, the index finger of the left hand lies on the side of the fictitious six, and the thumb is facing the audience. Now the performer removes his right hand, and with his left vertically turns the back of the card, where a fictitious six is depicted. While the audience is surprised, the performer, asking them questions, sees that it is now convenient to show a fictitious three, since the signs of worms on the reverse side are both located at the top, and at the bottom there is a free space, just convenient for the right hand. Calmly taking the card with two fingers of the right hand in the middle of the lower edge, the performer turns it with the reverse side around its axis, and the audience sees a fictitious triple instead of the ace of hearts (Fig. 82, D). The card is again turned to the player with the side with five signs of hearts. Moreover, three signs are located on the left, and two on the right. The left hand is currently free. Therefore, it is convenient for the performer to close one sign in the middle, from the left edge of the card, and show the audience a fictitious four, which he does. Taking the card with two fingers of the left hand by the middle of the left edge, covering one sign of hearts with the index finger, the performer lowers his right hand and turns the card over vertically. The six supposed by the audience has disappeared, and instead they see a fictitious four (Fig. 82, E). Next comes the repetition of the demonstration of the focus according to the initial description.
