Focus Description:

The artist asks one of the spectators to lend him a banknote in denominations of 1 or 3 rubles for a short time. Before taking the money, the performer asks the owner to write down the bill number and year of issue so that there are no misunderstandings.

The magician then takes this banknote, folds it in half three times and rolls it into a flat tube. Put an elastic band on the tube so that it does not unfold (Fig. 40, A). Holding the tube with one hand, the other takes a handkerchief from his pocket. He places money rolled into a tube in the middle of it, twists the middle of the handkerchief together with a banknote with a flagellum, and asks one of the spectators to hold it (Fig. 40, B).

While the spectator is holding a handkerchief, the performer approaches the illusion table and takes the potato lying there. Having shown it to the public, he approaches the viewer holding a handkerchief and asks to feel if there is a tube in the handkerchief. The viewer confidently feels it through the handkerchief. Then the magician, holding the corner of the handkerchief, asks the spectator assistant to let him go. Waving the handkerchief, which did not contain any money, the performer puts it in his pocket. And from there he takes out a penknife and cuts the potato in half, which he was still holding in his hands (Fig. 40, B). Having removed the top half of the potato, the artist invites the assistant to take the bottom, from which sticks out a tube that has disappeared from the handkerchief (Fig. 40, D).

The assistant removes it from the potato, unrolls it, shows it to the audience and reads the number and year of issue of the banknote, which matches the viewer's entry.

The performer thanks the assistant and returns the money to the owner.

Focus secret:

A potato, a colored handkerchief measuring 30x30 cm and a penknife are all the necessary props for this trick.

Its secret lies in a potato and a handkerchief. A piece of paper is sewn into one of the corners of the handkerchief, folded into a flat tube of 3-3,5 cm (the length of this tube should correspond to a 1- or 3-ruble bill folded in the same way, Fig. 40, E).

Having taken money from one of the spectators, the performer rolls it into a flat tube and puts an elastic band on it so that the tube does not unfold. Then, taking out a handkerchief, instead of a real banknote, he twists a paper tube in it, sewn into the corner of the handkerchief, and gives it to the invited spectator to hold. The real banknote remains in the magician's hand (Fig. 40, E). Holding it, he goes to his table, where there is a pre-cooked potato with a secret.

This potato should not be round, but ellipsoidal and, of course, cleanly washed. At one of its ends, approximately three-quarters of the way deep, a hole must be drilled into which a tube rolled up from a 1- or 3-ruble piece of paper can freely fit (Fig. 40, G). The potato prepared in this way must be placed on the table, in a cylinder or box before the performance, so that the audience does not notice the hole made in it.

When the performer takes the potato, he must quietly insert the banknote that he had in his hand inside it. Holding the potato with two fingers so that its hole is covered with his thumb, the artist takes the tip of the handkerchief, which the assistant releases from his hands at his request, and waves it several times.

The money tube disappeared without a trace. The magician puts the handkerchief in his pocket and takes out a pocket knife, cuts the potato, removes a banknote from it and returns it to the spectator.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bacteria on nanofiber electrodes could purify wastewater 15.07.2017

Scientists from Cornell University have developed an innovative competitive material for wastewater treatment of contaminants. The new development is based on carbon nanoelectrodes with a conductive coating of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene.

The electrodes were electrospun from carbon nanofibers and coated with an electrically conductive polymer called PEDOT. After this coating is applied to the electrode, a layer of electrically active Geobacter sulfurreducens bacteria begins to grow on it, which produce an electric current and transfer electrons to the next electrode.

Bacteria feed on pollution from sewage and produce electricity, and the conductive nanofiber creates a favorable environment for them.

The new material will be able to significantly reduce the cost of producing electrodes and thereby make the water treatment process more accessible.

In the future, bacteria sitting on electrodes will be able to capture contaminants directly from the water flowing past them and recycle them. This technology will allow wastewater treatment plants to take up less space and increase productivity.

Scientists have created a carbon nanofiber using electrospin and carbonization. The nanofiber becomes visible to the eye after a few hours of electrospin.

Carbon nanofiber was used in the development because it has high porosity and is biologically compatible with bacteria. The addition of PEDOT improved the efficiency of the electrode.
