Focus Description:

If you still have old toys, then perhaps among them you will find a rattle with three multi-colored balls of different diameters. With its help you can show a very entertaining trick.

First you need to carefully release the balls from the rattle and distribute them to the audience.

Then the performer is blindfolded with a handkerchief, and he becomes facing the audience.

Now one of the spectators comes up to the magician, gives him one of the balls and asks him to guess its color. The illusionist takes the ball, hides his hands behind his back for greater convincing, and after a few seconds accurately determines its color. This is repeated with all three balls, and not once does the magician make a mistake in determining their color.

It is necessary to choose a ring into which a small ball would fit freely, a medium one would have difficulty passing through, and a large one would not fit at all.

This ring can be purchased at any haberdashery store. Use it to hang curtains on the cornice. The main thing is that it is of a suitable diameter. A thread 10-15 cm long is tied to the ring and the whole thing is sewn to the lining of the jacket. If the ring is not visible under the jacket, you will be able to move freely. Well, if the jacket is too short, then try not to turn your back to the audience.

So, the performer hides his hands behind his back and tries to insert the ball into the ring. If the ball does not pass, then it is a large ball; if it passes easily, it is small; if it squeezes through with difficulty, then it is a medium ball.

Knowing which colors correspond to the balls, the magician will be able to accurately tell what color the ball is in his hands.

But for a successful performance, he should rehearse in front of a mirror.

Spin transistors will increase the speed of computers a million times 20.07.2012

A group of American researchers from Northwestern University has developed a family of completely new logic networks that use magnetic semiconductor devices instead of conventional transistors. Scientists claim that this could increase the power of future computers by a million times. In other words, we are talking about spintronics, which, instead of the charge of an electron, uses its other characteristic - spin. Spintronics has long been predicted to replace electronics, but logical spin networks have not yet been developed.

As you know, Moore's empirical law states that approximately every two years the number of transistors in a microchip doubles. This rule has been working since the fifties of the last century, but now it has begun to fail, since transistors have almost exhausted their possibilities in terms of further miniaturization. One of the main obstacles here is the heat dissipation of transistors - the more of them in the microchip, the more it heats up. Therefore, the use of today's transistors in the computers of the future is not possible.

In 2010, the same group created and then patented the so-called magnetoresistive bipolar spin transistors, and now they have learned how to make new logical networks out of them.

“We have developed a device based on logic networks capable of performing all the necessary operations of Boolean logic,” says Professor Walter Murphy, one of the authors of the development. “Our spintronic logic is able to successfully perform all the operations that are required today from circuits with conventional transistors, but with fewer elements and much greater performance, he says that the "spin logic networks" they created have the potential to lead to computers that are a million times more efficient than those currently on the market. this idea will take them about ten years.
