Focus Description:

There is an ordinary glass on the table. A piece of thin light rubber is stretched over it. There is a ten-kopeck coin lying on the rubber. The magician approaches the table and presses the coin with his finger. Oops! - and the coin fell into the glass.

Viewers are absolutely sure that there is a hidden slot in the rubber. But, in order to dispel the public's doubts, the magician removes the rubber from the glass and gives it to the audience. Everyone can look carefully and make sure that there are no hidden slots in it.

Focus Fancy coin

Focus secret:

You should prepare in advance to demonstrate this trick. A piece of rubber must be cut from a surgical rubber glove, which can be purchased at a pharmacy. It is important that the rubber is very thin and flesh-colored. The rubber piece should have a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the glass. Now have one of your helpers stretch the piece of rubber very tightly, and you put the coin in the middle. The coin turns out to be covered with a thin rubber film.

Then turn the piece of rubber over and place it on the glass so that the audience is sure that the coin is on top. Let your assistant hold the rubber piece by the edges, and all you have to do is press hard on the coin, and it, freed from its “captivity,” will fall to the bottom of the glass.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

lettuce leaf color 19.05.2015

Lettuce, an indispensable component of the advertised Mediterranean cuisine, comes with green, yellowish, red or red-green leaves. Does color matter from a dietary point of view, or is it just a decorative effect?

Researchers from the University of the Basque Country, led by Usue Perez-Lopez, tried to answer this question. Using electron paramagnetic resonance, he and colleagues from the University of Pisa investigated the kinetics of reactions involving various components of the leaves of the Batavia green lettuce, the red-green Miracle of the Four Seasons, and the red Oakleaf. As befits salads, their leaves contained a lot of antioxidants. However, in greens they provided mainly a slow reaction to reactive oxygen species, in reds substances with fast reactions predominated, and in red-greens, quite expectedly, substances of both types were present.

"You don't have to think that one salad is better than another," says Perez-Garcia. "There may be components in the food that require a quick response of antioxidants, and there may be others that require a slow response."

In his new experiments, Pérez-Garcia will try to increase the antioxidant content of lettuce by subjecting it to short-term stress - pouring salt water, additional lighting, or exposing it to an atmosphere where there is a lot of carbon dioxide. The main task at the same time is not to cross the line and not reduce the yield.
