EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Manipulation application. Tips for a magician Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Passing with one hand (volt) is used in many tricks. Its use is especially successful when the viewer, in the course of performing the number, must draw a card from the deck and notice it. The illusionist addresses the viewer: "Did you notice? Now, please, put this card into the deck." With his left hand, the performer holds out the deck to the viewer, holding it in the palm of his hand and at the same time opening it with the thumb of his right hand; he offers the deck to the spectator as shown in fig. 28.
This movement is so natural and unconstrained that the spectator, having stretched out and noticed a card, automatically puts it into the free gap formed in the deck. After that, the deck, as it were, slams shut, and the marked card is in the middle. In reality, the magician does not capture it, but, putting his little finger on the marked card, makes a volt with the other hand. Due to the movement, the lower part of the deck will take the position of the upper one; thus, the card marked by the viewer is transferred from the middle to the very top of the deck. This technique allows the performer to master this card in the course of the trick and do with it as he needs it (from this example, you can judge what value the volt has in card tricks). Thanks to the volt, you can move any part of the deck by shifting one or more cards up or down, keeping them under control all the time and, moreover, completely invisible to the viewer. To move cards from the middle of the deck to the very bottom, it is enough to place the little finger under the marked card, instead of placing it on the card, as was indicated in the previous example, and then make a volt. The marked card becomes the first from the bottom of the deck, if desired, it can always be easily peeped. It is not as easy to use volt and pass during the performance of tricks in the presence of spectators as it may seem after reading the description. This requires special art. So, for example, suppose a spectator draws a card, notices it, and puts it back in the middle of the deck. The performer needs to move the card up, that is, put the little finger on it and make a volt. When a card is returned to the deck, the spectator's eyes are naturally fixed on it; the look of the one who took the card will be especially attentive. And if at this moment the magician himself looks at the card, he can be sure: the volt will be noticed by the audience. This is where the tactic comes into play. After a pause and looking into the eyes of the spectator who pulled out the card, the performer says something like this: "You noticed the card well and put it back into the deck. Right? Excellent! Did you remember it well?" While the performer is saying this, the audience naturally looks at him; taking advantage of this, the performer, with a habitual movement, mechanically makes a volt, without drawing attention to it. To work "blindly", you need good training. Author: Vadimov A.A.
