Focus Description:

There is a cage with a bird on the table. The magician takes a handkerchief from the table and, showing that it is empty, covers the cage with it. Then he lifts the cage covered with a scarf by the ring in the lid, takes a stick and puts the cage on a stick (Fig. 105, A). Raising the stick up, the performer slightly pushes it, a handkerchief falls from the stick, and the cage disappears (Fig. 105, B).

Props:

A dissected cage with a live bird.

A table with a special hatch for the disappearance of the cage.

Folding frame imitating the top of the cage.

Prepared stick for the disappearance of the frame in it.

Coverlet.

The secret of the trick lies in the fact that the illusionist places a folding frame made in the form of umbrella rods on top of the cage in advance (Fig. 106, B). In the center of the frame is a circle, to which rods are attached on hinges. They can fold up if you lower the circle down. A ring is attached to the mug from below, and a hook from above. The whole device is made of 106 mm iron and soldered to the mug. On fig. XNUMXA shows a real cage with a scaffold placed on top of it.

Having put the cage on the table and covered it with a scarf, the performer moves it in such a way that it stands above the hatch, where it falls at the right moment, and the magician has only a frame covered with a scarf in his hands. The audience takes him for a cage. You can trim the top of the cage with a piece of cloth of the same color as the table cover. When the cage disappears into the table, the audience will mistake the cover for a whole tablecloth.

Various options for the disappearance of cells are possible. For example, it is convenient to use a folding cage. The performer, taking the frame covered with a scarf, puts it on a stick and, without looking at his hands, tries to touch the hook of the mechanics of the stick with the lower ring of the frame. Easily lifting the frame up, the magician makes sure that he is correctly put on the hook with a ring. Then the performer raises the stick up and, unnoticed by the audience, pulls on the string, which pulls out the spring lock. The spring enclosed in the stick instantly retracts inside, and the frame folds like an umbrella and goes inside the stick, made of a thin-walled aluminum tube. The handkerchief falls down to the floor, which is helped by the performer himself, lifting the stick up at this time.

On fig. 106, B shows a cross section of a stick. A frame covered with a scarf was placed on it. On fig. 106, D shows the internal mechanics of the stick and the folded frame. A spring or strong rubber ends with a hook at the top, and the magician puts the bottom ring of the frame on it. In mechanics, a stopper is made in the form of a small piston, at the upper end of which a hook is attached to put on the frame ring. On the side, at the top of the stick, a hole is made, inclined from the bottom up (it is shown in Fig. 106, C and D).

A rod with a ring at the end is inserted into this hole, to which a strong, inconspicuous nylon thread is tied. To charge the stick, proceed as follows. The spring is lifted up with a special wire hook and the rod is inserted into the hole, going obliquely from top to bottom, through the stick and spring bushings (in our figure, from right to left). If the rod is pulled out by the thread, it jumps out of the tube and releases the spring, which immediately drags the existing frame with it.

We deliberately do not indicate either the dimensions or the exact arrangement of the mechanics, leaving all this to be done by the amateur himself. When constructing the apparatus, we advise you to make a circle on the frame, which would easily fit inside the stick, and the rods would easily fold. To do this, take an aluminum tube of sufficient diameter. Outside, it should be painted to match the color of the tree, so that viewers are convinced that the stick is wooden. The mechanics of the stick can be made from a spring or from a tight elastic rubber. We believe that it is easier to use a thread for this, at the end of which you can attach a small circle with a hook. The circle is slightly jammed with a piece of a match. When the thread is pulled down, the circle will also slip down, dragging the frame with it.

You can think of many more possible options for solving this trick. It is necessary to work out the number in such a way that the viewer cannot notice the disappearance of the cage in the table, as well as how you put the bottom ring of the frame on the mechanics hook and pull the thread.

After performing the trick, the stick must be thrown backstage with a careless gesture, where an assistant catches it, and the performer himself transfers all his attention to the handkerchief that has fallen to the floor, picks it up and shows it to the public.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New carbon capture system 16.12.2019

A significant part of carbon dioxide emissions comes from transport, in Europe almost 40% from trucks. Researchers from the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL) have presented a new concept that will reduce emissions by 90%.

Scientists propose to capture carbon dioxide emitted from the exhaust pipe of a truck and convert it into liquid carbon dioxide, which is stored in a special tank on the roof of the car. This carbon dioxide can then be transported to a service station where it can be reused, such as converted into conventional fuel.

Carbon dioxide capture occurs by pre-cooling the exhaust gases. A special absorbent material developed at EPFL can separate CO2 from nitrogen and oxygen. It is heated to extract carbon dioxide, and the heat from the car's engine is used to compress it and turn it into a liquid. This system is more suitable for large vehicles such as trucks or buses, since the structure itself is quite bulky and contains a capsule 2 m long and weighing approximately 7% of the total load of the truck. However, researchers estimate that up to 90% of carbon dioxide emissions can be recycled in this way.

At the moment, the system is only a concept, and, according to researchers, it will take several years to implement it. The next step is to develop a prototype to test this concept in practice.
