Focus Description:

The performer allows the audience to examine the deck of cards, then returns to the stage where there is a table. He takes a small frame from him and, showing that it is empty on both sides, puts it on the table. As if remembering something, he takes the frame again and, covering it with a scarf, puts it on the table. He approaches one of the spectators, holding a deck of cards, and offers to take out one of them and show it to the spectators. Then he asks to tear the removed card in half, and he tears both halves into small pieces, while a small piece of the card falls out of his hands. The illusionist picks up this piece and gives it to the viewer to hold, puts the remaining pieces of the card in the envelope given to him and seals it. He goes to the stage, where he places this envelope in front of everyone.

Taking the “magic” wand in his hands, he makes several “magic” movements near the envelope, then hands it to the viewer and asks him to open it. He opens it and finds a card in it with no points on it. We draw your attention to the fact that the card is missing one corner. He waves the hand in which he holds the card - it disappears. Approaching the frame, the magician removes the scarf from it, and all spectators see that there is the same card there that the spectator took out of the deck, but it is missing a corner (Fig. 75).

Fig. 75

The artist takes out the card, approaches the viewer with it, who still has a corner in his hands, and applies it: the corner exactly matches the card.

Props:

A simple deck of playing cards.

A forced deck of cards consisting of one card repeated 32 times.

One clean card without points.

Two envelopes.

Frame (see "Frame for a portrait").

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick is in a forced deck consisting of 32 identical cards (for example, 32 queens of spades). The spectator is allowed to take out one “any” card, but it will always be the queen of spades. Remember that you must change cards every time you perform a trick.

The illusionist goes into the auditorium and lets you examine a real deck. When, returning to the stage, he shows the frame, he quietly exchanges the real deck for a forced one. Approaching the viewer, he unfolds it like a fan (only when he reaches out his hand to the deck). You cannot allow a spectator to take out two cards. Of course, both decks must be the same speck.

Before the performance, the magician tears off a corner from one queen of spades and saves it until the right moment. The card with the corner torn off is placed in a frame and covered with sand. The frame appears empty to viewers. It is placed on the table, covered and turned over. The sand, poured into a special compartment, reveals the map, but the audience does not see this: after all, the frame is covered on top.

As soon as the spectator takes out a card (the queen of spades), the performer asks to tear it in half, then he himself tears the halves into small pieces; at the same time, he seems to “accidentally” drop from his hand the corner that was torn from the queen of spades before loading the card into the frame, and asks the spectator to keep it. The torn pieces of cards are placed in an envelope, which, on the way to the stage, is quietly exchanged for another, with a blank card, without a corner. The envelope is placed in full view of everyone on stage, then he gives it to the spectator and takes out a blank card without a corner. The magician takes the card, palms it, hides it and shows the audience both hands empty. Then, going to the frame, he opens it, and the audience sees that there is a queen of spades, but without a corner. The performer takes the card out of the frame and, approaching the spectator, asks him to attach a corner to the card. They match exactly.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

New voltage references 26.05.2008

Texas Instruments has introduced two new voltage reference families, REF50xx and REF33xx, designed for high precision industrial applications as well as low power portable devices. The REF50xx has a maximum instability of 3 ppm/°C, an accuracy of 0,05%, and a noise level of 3 µVpp/V.

The combination of these parameters is optimal for working with most industrial high-resolution ADCs. The REF33xx has a low maximum quiescent current of 5µA, an output current of up to 5mA, and is capable of operating from a 1,8V supply, making it ideal for portable applications.
