EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Coin in a paper bag. The Secret of Focus Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician borrows a coin and asks the spectator to mark it so that it can be identified later. He then wraps the coin in a small piece of paper. The magician taps a paper bag with a coin on the table so that the audience hears: the coin is inside the paper. The bag with the coin is in full view of the audience all the time, but the coin, at the behest of the magician, disappears from it when he tears the bag into pieces. Having torn the bag open, he takes the coin out of his pocket, from the lapel of the spectator's jacket, or from any other place. Focus secret: No special props are required for this trick. However, the coin that is about to disappear must be large enough to look impressive from any distance. The piece of paper should measure approximately 10 by 15 cm. 1. Borrow a coin from a spectator, offering to mark it with a special marker so that it can be identified later. When this is done, take a piece of paper in your left hand and show everyone the coin you are holding in your right hand. Announce: “I will seal the coin I borrowed from the spectator into a piece of paper.” 2. Place the coin in the center of the sheet and hold it there with the thumb of your left hand on top and the rest on the bottom, as shown in the figure. 3. Using the fingers of your right hand, fold the top half of the sheet towards you, completely hiding the coin so that not a single part of it is visible to you or the audience. 4. Next, fold the left side of the sheet - away from you - near the coin. Thus, you will wrap the coin in paper on the left side. Do not press the paper too tightly against the edge of the coin; moreover, leave about half a centimeter of free space on this side of the coin. 5. Now fold the right side of the piece of paper - away from you - around the coin so that this folded part covers the paper folded on the left. Now you have wrapped the coin on the right side as well. Again, leave a gap of half a centimeter between the edge of the coin and the fold of the paper. 6. Note. At this point, the coin is wrapped on all sides, but the bottom edge is left open. When wrapping a coin, do not forget to hold it so that it does not fall into the open bottom slot of the bag. 7. The last fold is the most important. If you bend the bottom side of the bag up, the coin will be sealed in the bag. You will bend the bottom edge of the paper up - but towards the audience - leaving the bottom side of the bag open, thereby preparing the way for the coin to disappear. 8. Once the coin is completely wrapped, press down firmly on the paper until a clear imprint of the coin's outline is left on the paper. You need this print so that later the audience will believe in the presence of a coin inside the package. 9. You hold the bag with the fingertips of your right hand. Tap the edge of the bag on the table, allowing the audience to “hear” the coin inside. Say: “Now the coin is securely wrapped in paper. If you listen, you will hear it knocking on the table.” 10. You make the coin “disappear” with the following movements: hold the bag so that the open side is facing down towards the base of your fingers. Release the pressure of your right thumb and the coin will slide out of the paper into your right hand and rest unnoticed in your curled fingers. 11. Once the coin is in your hand, take the bag in your left hand. The right hand drops down casually with the coin secretly held between the fingers and palm. 12. With your left hand, show the bag to the spectators who believe that the coin is still in it. It was for this moment that you made the impression of the coin. When showing the bag, show both sides with prints so that the audience can verify from them that the coin is still inside. 13. Note. When transferring a package from your right hand to your left, you may not leave the coin in your right hand, but the natural gesture is to lower your right hand into your pocket and leave the coin there to be retrieved later. With this procedure, your right hand is empty when you begin the next step. 14. Solemnly raise your hands in front of you and tear the bag in half. Throw the scraps on the table. To prove that the coin has really disappeared, you can tear the bag into small pieces. The coin can then be removed from your pocket, or, if it is still in your hand, you can pull it out from behind the spectator's jacket lapel, from under his tie, or anywhere else you wish.
