EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES A ball of wool. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician asks the audience to lend him a ring, preferably a wedding ring, or a coin, after marking it. He puts the ring or coin in a box (see "Disappearing box") and places it on the table, in full view of the audience. An assistant comes out and places the box in a vase, in full view of everyone, then immediately goes backstage." The illusionist calls one person from the audience and, placing him near the box, asks him to guard the ring. A short dialogue takes place between the spectator and the magician, during which the assistant comes out and places a large ball of wool in the vase. The performer asks the viewer to pick up the box, which he does (Fig. 68).
The magician asks whether the spectator is protecting the ring well, and after a positive answer, he makes “magic” passes in the direction from the box to the vase. Then he asks the viewer to look at what he is guarding. He opens the box - there is nothing in it. A comic dialogue takes place, at the end of which the performer asks the “watchman” to unwind the skein of wool lying in the vase without touching the ball. The viewer unwinds. The wool is placed on the floor and, when the ball is completely untangled, a ring that has just disappeared from the box is found tied in the middle of it. Props: A ball of wool and a device for a ring. Vase. Focus secret: As is clear from the description, there are two secrets in this trick: a box and a ring tied to a thread in the middle of the ball. The focus is achieved using a small device shown in Fig. 69, A. This is a quadrangular cylinder, soldered from thin tin, into the internal section of which a wedding ring with a diameter of approximately 10x30 mm can freely pass.
The end of a thick woolen or garus thread is threaded into cylinder A from the narrow side (Fig. 69, A). Then wool is wound onto the same end of the cylinder, making a ball of the desired size. A ball with a cylinder inserted into it and a thread sticking out is placed behind the scenes. When the magician places the box on the table, he discreetly disguises the ring in his hand behind some object, for example, a “magic” wand. The assistant who comes out places the box in the vase with his right hand, and with his left hand he quietly takes the ring and takes it backstage; immediately ties the ring to the thread (Fig. 69, B) and pushes it through the cylinder inside the ball of wool, helping with a small stick. He threads the rest of the thread there. Carefully removes the cylinder from the ball and quickly straightens it so that nothing is noticeable. The ring ends up in the center of the ball, which the assistant places on stage in a vase (see Fig. 68), lowering the outer end of the thread down. The viewer will have to unwind the ball for a long time before he gets to the ring, which has mysteriously “disappeared” from the box. Author: Vadimov A.A.
