Focus Description:

This funny trick is performed as a passing trick in some other trick with a hat borrowed from the audience.

external effect. The illusionist asks the audience for a hat and, taking it, examines it very carefully. Asks a question: - Does your hat have any flaws? Is she whole?

With these words, the magician takes her in his right hand, and lowers his left inside (Fig. 219, A) and hangs a hat on her, while stroking her top with his right. Then, as if stumbling, he makes a movement with his left hand inside the hat and takes away his right. Spectators see that the performer's finger pierced the hat (Fig. 219, B).

Confused Magician says:

- Obviously, the hat is very old. Take her back!

With these words, he goes to the viewer, carefully closing the top of the hat with his right hand, and gives it back. Everyone sees that she is completely whole.

A hat borrowed from the audience.

Artificial index finger with a needle.

The secret lies in an artificial finger made of wood or papier-mâché and painted to match the color of the hand and nail. A long steel needle is embedded in the finger (Fig. 219, B). Putting the hat on his hand, the magician holds an outstretched index finger inside. Then, imperceptibly taking an artificial finger in his right hand and pretending to stroke the top of the hat, he sticks the needle from above under the cover of his palm. At this time, the finger in the hat is bent, and the hand goes further inside, giving the impression that the finger has pierced the top of the hat. Taking the needle inside, the performer rotates his finger, showing that he is rotating his hand.

An artificial finger should not be kept in sight for a long time. Going to the audience with a hat, the magician, imperceptibly covering it with his right hand, pulls out an artificial finger and hides it in his pocket. Giving the hat to the viewer, you should carefully smooth out the mark from the needle.

Performing this trick always causes a lot of laughter.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Created a computer model of a bacterium 01.08.2012

Researchers from Stanford University and the Craig Venter Institute said Friday through the journal Cell that they have created a complete computer model of the bacterium and traced, at the molecular level, its entire life cycle between divisions.

The sample was taken from the pathogenic bacterium Mycoplasma genitalium, the same one that the Craig Venter Institute used in 2008 to create an artificial chromosome. The reason for the choice is simple - it is a bacterium with the smallest genome in the world, consisting of only 525 genes. However, even this, the simplest of the simplest, living organism required 128 powerful computers to work together for its computer virtualization.

Although the researchers themselves interpret what they have done as a "first draft", the first draft of M.genitalium, it was undoubtedly a completely "living" single-celled organism containing 28 kinds of interacting molecules - RNA, DNA, proteins and small molecules called metabolites - products of cellular vital activity. It is curious that the life cycle of a bacterium up to its division took 9-10 hours of computer time. About the same time M.genitalium lives in the real world.

The work of the Stanford team has already been recognized as a major breakthrough in a very young scientific direction - computer biology. Computer models of cells have been created in various laboratories for about a decade, but they are all very approximate models that can describe only a small number of functions and include the work of only part of the genes.

Now researchers are facing the next, at first glance, almost impossible task - to create a model of the bacterium Escherichia coli, which is involved in the vast majority of microbiological experiments. Its DNA consists of 4288 genes, it divides every 20-30 minutes and overtakes M.genitalium by orders of magnitude in terms of the number of molecular interactions. Associate professor of bioengineering Markus Covert, who led the study, says a virtual E. coli will be created by his group in two years.
