Focus Description:

On the stage there is a table with a jug filled with water, and a chair, on the back of which hangs a sheet of paper (Fig. 211, A). The magician pours water from a jug into a glass and pushes it out. Putting the glass on the table, he takes a sheet of paper from the chair and rolls a pound (bag) out of it; takes a jug and pours water from it into a pound (Fig. 211, B). To prove that the water is in the bag, he pours some of the water back into the jug. Then he again pours water into the bag. Putting the vessel on the table, the performer asks the assistant to light a match. Taking it, he brings it to the edge of the pound and lights the paper. Funtik burns to the end in the hands of an illusionist.

“You see,” he says, “in the hands of a magician, even water can burn! (Fig. 211,B).

Little table.

Chair with full back.

Water pitcher and glass.

A sheet of thick paper for making a funky.

The secret device for the pounder.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick lies in the device shown in fig. 212, A. This is a small pound, containing 200-300 g of water and glued from celluloid. It has an eye to which a thin, strong fishing line 25 or 30 cm long is tied, depending on the length of the celluloid pounder and the length of the opaque back of the chair. The other end of the fishing line is tied to a small metal hook, which can easily fit into an iron bracket designed in such a way that it can be screwed behind the back of the chair with two screws (Fig. 212, A).

An empty celluloid pound is hung on a hook behind the back of the chair (Fig. 212, B).

The conjurer, having rolled up a pound from paper and showing it to the audience, comes up to the table, takes a jug of water and lowers his right hand with the pound for one moment behind the back of the chair. At this moment, a celluloid is tucked into a paper bag so that it goes inside the paper bag. This movement is so simple and fast that the audience will not be able to suspect anything, especially since they see the same paper pound in their hands.

If this trick is well rehearsed, then the performer can also quietly remove the hook with the fishing line tied to it from the bracket, so that later he can calmly pour water from the jug into a paper jug (as it seems to the audience), but in fact into a celluloid pound inserted into it. At the same time, you need to make sure that the spectators do not see the hooks and fishing line. The magician may not remove the hook from the bracket, but hold the funky over the back of the chair and pour water into it. When the water is poured, the performer pours it several times, then puts the jug on the table. Carrying the pound from behind the chair, he manages to hang the hook on the bracket, and lowering his hand down, remove the celluloid bag from the paper one. With practice, you will be able to achieve an impeccable performance of this number.

Having done all this, the magician sets fire to the pound with a match given to him and holds it in his hands as if there were water in it. When the paper burns to the end, the illusionist says his final words.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Ion will feel the power 28.08.2009

An ion trap, with which you can measure the smallest changes in electromagnetic fields, was created by scientists from the United States.

The single ion trap, designed by the 1989 Nobel laureate Hans Dehmelt, is a set of lasers (to cool the ion) and electrodes (to create an electric field that traps the supercold ion). Now such traps work in atomic clocks, and physicists hope to use them to create a quantum computer. In the Demeldt trap, the ion is surrounded by electrodes on almost all sides.

Scientists from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA) have woven such a trap out of steel wires that a single magnesium ion caught in it is closed only on one side. It turns out something like a drop of ink, which hangs on the tip of the pen and cannot fall in any way.

As a result, scientists have the opportunity to bring this single ion very close to any surface and measure the forces that arise between them. This is similar to the principle of operation of an atomic force microscope, only the sensitivity of the ion trap is a million times greater than that of existing cantilevers.

The result was the basis for a fundamentally new device capable of sensing extremely weak electric, magnetic and, possibly, other fields. Especially high is the sensitivity of the ion sensor to alternating electric fields in the oscillation range of 100 kHz-10 MHz.
