Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician talks about the achievements of our science and technology, about the Soviet satellites of the Earth, about the lunar rocket, about the upcoming flights of people into space. - In illusionary art, - he continues, - a flight into space can take place even now, before your eyes. The performer asks the assistants to show the apparatus and the control panel. Assistants take out a small platform on which two booths are installed. They connect the tops of the booths with a transparent light arch. Doors are arranged in the front walls of the cabin, half covered with a fine copper mesh. A thin cable is pulled from the control panel to the platform. “I need a traveler for a lightning flight to Mars,” says the illusionist. An assistant comes out in a man's flight suit, in a leather helmet, with gloves in her hands. The performer asks one of the spectators to write one or two surnames on her hand in order to make sure later that this is the same person who again arrived on Earth, returning from a space flight. The assistant gives the audience an ink pencil and moistens the left hand with a wet sponge, which she holds in her right hand. After the audience has written one or two names, the girl returns to the stage, puts on gloves with large leggings and fastens her helmet under her chin. Assistants - approach the booths and, opening the doors, show that it is empty inside. The performer goes to the control panel and says: - Let's assume that our left booth will be the Earth (the inscription "Earth" immediately flashes in the booth). - And the right one - Mars (the inscription "Mars" lights up). - You are ready? he asks the assistant. An affirmative answer follows. The assistant goes to the left booth (Fig. 154), closes the door behind her and stands inside to her full height. For a brief fraction of a second, the lights go out - and immediately the interior of the booth is brightly lit. The light on the stage is very dark.
- Please sit down, - says the performer. The assistant sits down on a bench. Dark in the right booth. The illusionist does something on the remote, and the words "Earth" and "Mars" begin to flash. From "Earth" to "Mars" flashes of light flash. The light in the left booth is gradually decreasing, the audience can hardly distinguish the sitting girl. Light gradually appears in the right booth of Mars, the audience notices that the assistant is already barely visible in the left booth, but at the same time they see her outlines in the right booth. In the left, the light goes out completely, and in the right, it lights up in full force. The girl gets up, opens the door, goes out and goes into the audience. - I ask you to make sure that our space traveler has arrived on Mars, - the performer says. Spectators are convinced of the authenticity of their signatures on the assistant's hand. Assistants again show that both cabins are empty. - It's time, it's time to go to Earth, - calls the magician. The girl, again putting on gloves, enters the booth "Mars" and closes the door behind him, standing upright. - Sit down, - the illusionist says, manipulating the buttons on the remote control. Immediately, the inscriptions "Mars" - "Earth" begin to flash again and light lightning again rushes, but in the opposite direction - from "Mars" to "Earth". Now the left booth is in darkness, while the right one is brightly lit. The light slowly goes out, but already in the right booth and gradually appears in the left. The right becomes darker, while the left brightly illuminates. The audience sees how the assistant, disappearing in one booth, appears in another (now on the left). The assistant gets up from the bench and, opening the door, goes out onto the stage, which is immediately illuminated by full light. Assistants, showing booths empty, take them backstage. The stand and the control panel are also removed there. The girl goes to the audience, shows the signatures on her hand and, returning to the stage, taking off her helmet, bows to the audience. “Now you are all convinced that traveling to Mars is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance,” the performer finishes. This number requires excellent coherence in performance. Its props are simple, the secret is revealed without complex drawings and detailed explanations. At the same time, the focus enables the amateur, on the basis of this technique and secret, to come up with and construct an original illusion of his own system. Props: Platform on legs with two booths having a secret device. Control panel with cable for connection to the platform. Inscriptions and various decorations with electric lamps. Start with the platform. It is made of strong wooden slats and covered with plywood. The legs are 40 cm high. All dimensions are approximate: they depend on your taste and the height of the assistant. On fig. 192, 1 you see the platform in plan from above, where D is the platform itself, B are the booths, and G are the hatches. The measurements are in centimeters. On fig. 192,2 shows the platform in section along the line AB. The move for the assistant is clearly visible and the masking of the manhole leading from one booth to another is visible. This move is made of wooden planks and sheathed inside with plywood, which is carefully cleaned: after all, the assistant will have to move quickly in complete darkness. The width of the passage is 50 cm, the depth is 25 cm. The manhole is made closer to the side farthest from the audience. It is covered with thin plywood, which is nailed to the platform from below on the side facing the audience. In this way your move is very well disguised. Viewers do not see the entire depth of the manhole, and from a distance it seems to them that the thickness of the platform is quite small - only 10 cm (equal to the width of plank E, see Fig. 192, 2).
For those who wish, we will indicate that it is possible to make a manhole, which at the right time will go down, and then go up on the rubber itself. It will not be noticed by the audience at all and can be folded down to a thickness of less than 10 cm. Such a move is a 50 cm wide board suspended under the platform on straps that prevent the board from falling and lowering no more than 25-30 cm. The board lies on attached to the platform of thin rubber shock absorbers or on strong rubber, its sides are sheathed with a thin tarpaulin. It turns out a closed manhole, which is held under load in the position you need, and then immediately, under the action of rubber, rises again to the platform. With such a move, another method of execution is possible, which we will discuss below. The control panel is arranged as desired. It can be in the form of a small table or dashboard, on which there are buttons, switches, switches, warning lights, either flashing or fading. The control panel plays a decorative role in our room. You seem to be demonstrating to the audience the latest achievements of science and technology, but in fact, the control panel serves only to turn on one or the other booth with a rheostat in time. To mount such a decorative console with several fake devices, a real rheostat and control buttons, a light in the booths, the club's electrician will help you if you yourself cannot do it. A cable runs from the console to the booths in full view of the audience, to which all the illumination of the illusion is connected. Note that when showing the focus, it is best to turn down the light on the stage, and then turn it off completely, leaving only the control panel and the inscriptions "Mars" - "Earth", as well as various decorations and "lightning bolts" illuminated. Inscriptions and decorations are made according to your taste, desire and possibilities. Daylight electric lamps are very good for this purpose. "Lightning" must be made so that they "flash" and quickly "fly" from one booth to another. Decorations in the form of lightning are mounted on a shield 30 cm wide and 300 cm long and placed along the outer ten-centimeter side of the platform, masking the passage under it from the audience. You can make these decorations see-through and transparent, but then you need to build in them three or four small light bulbs with small reflectors directed towards the audience. Due to the light hitting the eyes, viewers will not be able to see the actual thickness of the device. Focus secret: The secret of the illusion is that a second assistant is used for the number. In the circus, this is done easier: they invite artists - twins, who almost do not differ from each other. Sometimes even the performer himself for some time replaces himself with a double. To perform on the club stage, this method is not applicable. You'd better use the approximate similarity of the two girls, who should be the same height and build. Hair color does not play a role: you can use a wig. In addition, we put aviation helmets on the heads of assistants, which hide facial features. The male flight suit gives more resemblance to the figures of girls. It is clear that helmets, shoes, suits, gloves to the smallest detail must be exactly the same. Here's how the performance goes. Behind the scenes, the second assistant, dressed and made up in exactly the same way as the first, is placed inside the passage (Fig. 193).
Here the apparatus is shown in section; You can see the position of the second assistant. Note that she can lie in the hole, as it is more convenient for her to move, but without fail with her head to the left booth ("Earth"). In this form, the device, along with charging, is taken out and installed on the stage. Then everything goes according to the description of the external effect. When the first assistant enters the "Earth" booth and the door closes behind her, the second one will immediately get out of the hatch, keeping in the lower half of the booth as close as possible to the door. Bent over, she won't be visible to viewers who only notice the first girl. As soon as the light goes out for a second, the second assistant stands up to her full height, and the first one sits on the floor with lightning speed and, opening the hatch, quickly makes her way to the Mars booth, where she sits down on the bench in that note. Her doppelgänger also sits down on the bench in the Earth booth. The performer with a rheostat gradually dims the light in the left booth and, when the outlines of the girl are barely visible, begins to gradually turn on the light in the right. For some time, viewers see the outlines of assistants in both the right and left booths. Now the light goes out in the left, and in the right it gradually increases until the moment when the first girl leaves the Mars booth. Then again everything goes according to the description. But while the assistant goes to the audience, her double manages to get into the move with his head towards the Mars booth. When the first girl enters the booth and closes the door, the second girl gets inside the booth, and everything will happen in exactly the same way as we described above. When the light is out, the double takes a place on the bench, and the first assistant sneaks into the "Earth" booth, where she sits down on the bench. For a successful display of the illusion, well-coordinated work of both assistants and an electrician is necessary, which must turn on the light well and on time. It is better if all light control is transferred to the control panel and the performer himself can adjust the intensity of lighting in a particular booth, turn on decorations, inscriptions and "lightning". We mentioned that it is possible to use a climbing ladder that descends on belts and rises on shock absorbers. In this case, before the performance, the double sits inside the booth "Mars" and, sitting on the floor, tends to take up as little space as possible. As soon as the apparatus is taken out, the performer shows the audience that the platform is very thin and, passing a stick under it, proves that there is nothing there. Then the assistants take out the board with decorations and hang it on the side of the apparatus, connect the cord to illuminate the board, and at this time the double climbs into the descending passage and lies there with its head to the "Earth" booth.
