Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Music lessons contribute to academic success 01.07.2019

Canadian scientists have found that high school students who play musical instruments score higher in math and English exams than their peers who are not involved in music education.

The authors looked at the academic performance and the number of music courses taken by more than 110 Canadian students, making the study the largest of its kind.

Other works have previously reported that top students are more likely to take music lessons. This suggests that academic performance determines the propensity to study music, and not vice versa. But a new study claims that there is a "musical phenomenon" in which music lessons benefit students and help them become academically successful.

In the work of scientists, differences in examination classes between music and non-music students were consistent regardless of previous academic achievements in similar examinations in the seventh grade. Other factors, such as gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status or family income, also did not matter.

That music lessons seem to help academic achievement in general was not the only thing the researchers found. They also saw that students who scored highly in music tended to do better on math tests as well. That is, by the musical success of a student, one can predict his approximate results in solving mathematical problems. However, it did not work in the opposite direction: good mathematicians did not show the same success in music.

Although the study was conducted using data from Canadian students, the authors expect the results to be similar in other countries. It remains unclear how musical and academic success might be related, but scientists have theorized that music activates certain areas in the brain, allowing children to learn new skills faster.
