Focus Description:

The performer puts a chair and covers it with some kind of scarf - a coverlet, so that the edges of the matter hang slightly.

There is a liter glass jar on the table. It is poured to the top with water and, having shown the audience, they put it on the table again. Taking a handkerchief from the table, you carefully cover the jar with it, and, slightly lifting it with your left hand (Fig. 32), take the "magic" wand from the table with your right hand.

Carefully walk, being afraid to "splash" the water, and put the jar on a chair. Then you quickly touch the top of the vessel with a stick and instantly press your left hand with a handkerchief to the chair, "crumpling" the jar (Fig. 33). You pull off the handkerchief that remains in your left hand and throw it crumpled on the table. The water bottle has disappeared.

Suspicion falls on a chair. The performer, as if embarrassed, wants to take it away, but stops, abruptly pulls off the coverlet and throws it on the table too. He turns the chair over and shows that he did not have any special devices.

Props:

Liter glass tin can or glass.

A scarf - a cover for a jar about 45x45 cm in size.

The scarf should completely cover the jar. It is made double, preferably dark in tone. A cardboard circle with a diameter slightly larger than the neck of the can is inserted into the middle. After her "disappearance", the handkerchief together with the circle can be easily crumpled and thrown on the table, which will not arouse any suspicion among the audience.

Ordinary chair.

A large shawl-cover for a chair measuring approximately 75x75 cm. We recommend taking a shawl made of dense, beautiful-looking material for this purpose.

Retractable sideboard (Fig. 41).

Usually, professional magicians make a ladder in the table, that is, an inconspicuous hatch with a door that is kept closed by a spring. One has only to put a jar of water on the hatch door, as the vessel falls down, and the door immediately falls back into place.

We do not advise amateurs to use this method. Firstly, you will either have to cut through the table or make a special table. Secondly, no matter how experienced the illusionist is, failures are possible with the ladder. Several years ago I had to see the performance of this number by one of the oldest circus artists. He unhurriedly covered the jar, put it on the ladder and, releasing his fingers over the throat of the jar, cautiously walked away from the table, pretending to be afraid of splashing water. But the bank, having entered halfway into the ladder, treacherously swaying, revealed the secret. The artist, seeing nothing of this, finished the number with deathly silence and complete bewilderment of the audience.

For amateur artists, such breakdowns are even more possible. It must be remembered that there is no sadder and more unpleasant sight than a failed magician.

The sideboard offered by us (Fig. 42) is simple and trouble-free in operation. It is made of plywood (Fig. 43, A), to which is attached a bag of so-called "children's" oilcloth (Fig. 43, B), and two skids for the frame (Fig. 43, B).

They are attached to the bottom board of the table. On these skids, shown in Figure 41 by a dotted line, the frame moves inside the table. If you pull it out, then it will be easy to imperceptibly lower the jar into the bag. Then, pressing sideways on the extended sideboard, push it inside the table.

The bag is made of such a size that the jar could hide upright in it.

Secret. It's probably clear from the description of the props. You cover the jar with a handkerchief, in the middle of which a circle of cardboard is sewn. Then when you lift the jar and "drop" it into a retractable sideboard. That's the whole secret of this simple and interesting number.

On fig. 44 shows the same moment as in Fig. 32, but only from the reverse side: you can see how the can falls into a retractable sideboard.

It should only be remembered that the table during the session should stand so that the audience could not see the sideboard.

It is more convenient to cover the table with a tablecloth.

When you lower the jar into the sideboard, the audience can hear the splash of water, the noise from the fall of the jar. At this point, you need to divert the attention of the audience with a conversation, or it is best to drown out the noise with music.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Vortex electron microscope 20.11.2012

Electron microscopes are an extremely important scientific tool, especially in the field of materials science. Scientists from the Vienna University of Technology have improved this device and created an electron beam that rotates like a tornado. Vortex electron beams can be used not only to display the objects under study, but also to study the properties of materials on a nanometer scale.

In a tornado, individual air molecules do not necessarily rotate around their axis, but the general suction of the entire mass of air creates a powerful vortex. Rotating electron beams behave in a similar way, although they are primarily subject to quantum effects. Electrons behave like waves, and these quantum waves can spin like a tornado or water behind a ship's propeller. One of the advantages of the vortex electron microscope is that the vortex of electrons can transfer angular momentum to the object of study. As is known, the angular momentum of electrons in solid materials is closely related to its magnetic properties, which are very important for science.

The first successes in the creation of a vortex electron microscope were achieved two years ago, when an electron beam was passed through a tiny grid that divided the beam into three partial beams (one rotated to the right, the other to the left, and the third did not rotate). Now a more advanced version of this technology has been developed, does not require splitting the beam into three parts. For this, a screen was created, half of which is covered with a layer of silicon nitride. This layer is so thin that electrons can penetrate it with little or no absorption, but the screen leads to a phase shift and, with the help of special astigmatic lenses, effectively swirls the electron beam.

The new microscope produces an electron vortex that is an order of magnitude more powerful than a similar beam produced by any of the other existing facilities. Scientists look forward to using the vortex electron microscope to study the magnetic properties of the latest nanomaterials. Also, the new tool can be used in exotic research, for example, to rotate individual molecules with it, which can be useful in the development of materials with special properties.
