Focus Description:

The magician takes from the table a small four-leaf screen; showing it on one side, turns and shows the other side (Fig. 14).

Turns it again and folds it in the form of a rectangular box without a bottom and a lid; then he takes out various objects from it: serpentine, folding figures, ribbons, etc. (Fig. 15). Again he shows the unfolded screen on both sides and, again folding it into a box, takes out several lighted lanterns from there. Once again he shows it empty, and again takes out a live pigeon or a guinea pig from the box.

Finally, he again shows an empty one on both sides and, having folded its sides like an accordion, puts it on the table.

Props:

Shirmochka of four wings.

The height of the screen is 40 cm, the width is 70 cm. Each flap is 17,5 cm wide (see Fig. 14). The flap is designed in such a way that it can be folded to either side. It is made of plywood, and its sides are pasted over on both sides with a strong cloth, which serves instead of loops. The screen is beautifully painted, and a pattern is chosen that would be good to disguise the swinging sideboard, embedded in one of the middle doors.

To prevent the sashes from accidentally opening, they must have light constipation-paper clips.

The swinging sideboard (Fig. 27) consists of two thin plywood doors measuring 12 × 30 cm (Fig. 27, A). They are interconnected by matter glued from the inside in such a way that at the bottom the wings converge together, and at the top they diverge by 12-15 cm, forming an angle. The sides of the fabric are folded inwards. It looks like a thick board (two plywood and valve material, which does not reach the top by 1 cm to the edge).

Having made a sideboard, start making a frame for it, and you will have completed one of the screen doors - the most difficult part of the work.

Frame the sideboard in a plywood frame of such thickness that the folded sideboard fits easily but without gaps. The thickness of the walls of the frame must be exactly equal to the thickness of the folded sideboard.

On fig. 27 we see: A - sideboard in the open position; B - folded (side in section); D - sideboard walls; E - matter that connects these walls and forms a swinging sideboard with them. Rice. 27, B shows in front the flap of the screen with a sideboard folded and inserted into it, locked with an inconspicuous latch 3 (in the figure it is deliberately shown distinctly, in fact, if it is painted over in the color of the screen, it will be completely invisible to the audience). Rice. 27, D shows the screen in plan, from above, when the screen is folded into a box and the sideboard is inside.

Having made the first leaf with a swinging sideboard, it is easy to make the other three of exactly the same thickness. It is very good to paste over the doors with cloth and, having primed, paint with oil paints. The slot of the sideboard must be carefully cut with a razor blade.

We have described the sideboard in such detail that it will not be difficult for an amateur to make it and the whole screen.

Focus secret:

The secret of this room is in the swinging sideboard, built into one of the middle doors of the screen. In this case, you need to skillfully handle the screen. Showing it to the audience with the side on which the sideboard is not visible, the performer must keep the sideboard as close to himself as possible. Then, when turning the screen to show the other side of it to the audience, it is necessary, carefully turning the screen, at the right moment to press the sideboard with your chest, which is why it will come out to the other side of the screen. Then, turning the screen again, you should again keep the sideboard as close to your chest as possible.

Thoroughly practice turning the screen in front of the mirror, work out the turns so that the audience cannot notice the sideboard at all.

Listing the accessories, we did not mention those things that the performer takes out of the screen. This is a matter of the illusionist's taste. It is good, for example, to get a multi-colored serpentine, folding lanterns that can be lit inside with a lighter placed in a sideboard. You can purchase or make yourself various other folding figures and, quickly opening them inside the screen, amaze the audience with the size and number of things taken out of the screen.

It is good to take out a huge folding garland of multi-colored paper, scarves, silk scarves and, finally, a live dove.

The "charging" of the sideboard depends on the taste and desire of the lover. We repeat, the number must be very well rehearsed, only then you are guaranteed great success with the audience.

The influence of a child's nutrition on his future character 17.01.2023

Scientists from the Institute of Military Epidemiology in Oslo have found that the nutrition of a mother during pregnancy and a child under the age of seven years can be associated with the character and mental health of the child.

A total of 40 pairs of mothers and children were included in the study. Mothers filled out questionnaires when the child was six months old, 566 months old, three years old, seven years old and eight years old.

The analysis found that a healthy maternal diet was associated with higher scores on conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and imagination, and lower scores on neuroticism in children.

Healthy eating for mothers during pregnancy and for children between the ages of six months and seven years was associated with lower depression scores in children at age eight, but the researchers did not find a significant association between diet and anxiety. However, diet at age seven had a stronger effect on the risk of developing depression than diet during infancy.

The authors noted that all participating mothers were non-smokers and regularly took multivitamins and folic acid supplements, so they do not represent the general population. To date, no studies have reported an association between early childhood nutrition and five major personality traits.
