EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Flowers from under the shawl. Focus Secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician appears with a folded shawl, which he holds across the middle. After greeting the audience, he unfolds the shawl and, shaking it, takes the adjacent corners in two hands. Without releasing the corners from his hands, but only crossing his arms, the artist shows the audience the inside of the shawl several times, then with a sharp movement raises his right hand holding the shawl, and brings the left under its center from the inside and releases the corner from the right hand. The left hand is slightly moved to the side and forward, the shawl falls from the hand in free folds in the form of a cone (Fig. 48).
After a short pause, smiling mysteriously, the presenter slowly brings his right hand under the shawl, from below, and slowly takes out a bouquet of fresh flowers from under it. After that, he gives the shawl to the assistant who came to the rescue, and he takes it away. The artist holds a bouquet, raising it above his head, smiling. After a pause, he comes to the ramp and scatters flowers into the hall or, descending into the hall, distributes flowers to the audience, passing along the middle aisle between the rows. Focus secret: First of all, we need a bag made of thin material or polyethylene, 12-18 cm deep and 12-14 cm wide. On one side of the bag, in the center, a ribbon loop is attached (Fig. 49, A). A strong black twine is sewn straight from the loop to the top (Fig. 49, B). Its free end extends 40 centimeters beyond the bag (this should be specified according to your figure) and ends in a loop, to the end of which a half of a clothes button is sewn.
Two strap loops (1 and 2) are sewn to the back of the vest at the waist level in the middle. They are visible in figures 49, B and 49 c. The distance between the loops is 40 mm. A metal rod with a ring at the end is inserted into these loops, a black cord about 35-40 cm long is attached to the rod, which, passing through a tiny loop (3), goes along the right side of the artist to the front; there, with the help of a half of a clothes button k1 sewn to the end of the lace, it is fastened to the lining of the jacket, on which the second half of this button is fastened. If we pull the cord with our left hand, then the metal rod will come out of the strap loops and hang near the loop 3. Now let's do the following: put some object or just a folded newspaper into our bag and put it on a metal rod that is attached to the vest, passing the rod through tab 2, through the loop on the bag, and then through tab 1 (this is shown on Fig. 49, B, where the bag is indicated by a dotted line). We will draw the twine attached to the bag under the left armpit and fasten its end to the lining of the left floor of the jacket, where we will sew the second half of the button. Crossing your arms, take the left end of the lace coming from the metal rod, and the right end - the lace from the bag. Pulling the cord sharply with your left hand so that the rod comes out of the tabs, at the same time lift your right hand up. The bag that was attached to the back of your vest will hang from the string in your right hand. Repeat all this from the very beginning, but already holding the shawl in your hands and not letting go of it. First, turn the shawl several times so as to show the intended audience the reverse side of it, and then, seizing the moment, grab the ends of the laces and release the bag. You need to do this in front of a mirror. Having worked out this technique, proceed to its decoration. Put a bouquet of flowers (carnations or daisies) in a bag, lowering them with their heads down, fasten the stems by throwing a rubber band. The bag "charged" with flowers is fastened on the back of the vest, and the ends of the laces are under the sides of the jacket, as already described. Holding the shawl in two hands (at adjacent corners) stretched at the level at which the ends of the laces are attached to the lining of the jacket, it is turned inside out towards the audience, crossing the arms (right over left). Having shown the reverse side of the shawl 2-3 times, the magician grabs the ends of the laces in crossed hands, without releasing the corners of the shawl and, pulling out the rod on which our bag hangs with his left hand, stretches the shawl to the sides, simultaneously raising his right hand up. The released bag will come forward after the lace - at this moment the artist picks it up with his left hand, brings it under the middle of the shawl and releases the corner from his right hand (Fig. 48). Rehearse this manipulation in front of a mirror until you learn how to do it quickly, clearly and without looking at your hands. It is not difficult to get a bouquet from a bag under a shawl, but you need to put your right hand under the shawl not through the folds on the side, but always from below. The manipulation so extensively described here lasts no more than one second on the stage. This trick allows you to extract from under the shawl not only flowers, but, say, sweets, nuts, which can be presented to young spectators at a children's matinee, or a vase with water and live fish swimming in it. How to prepare a vase for this spectacular trick, you will learn in the last section of our book. If the bag is sewn from two scarves, “charged” with many other multi-colored scarves and taken out slowly one at a time (and in the end, turn the bag on the left side and get it like a scarf - the audience will not notice the trick), you can give the shawl to the audience for inspection.
