Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: A beautifully painted flower vase stands on a glass board of an elegant nickel-plated table. The magician, taking the vase, shows that it is filled to the brim with earth. Putting the vase on the table, the performer declares that this earth has special properties: it is very fertile and accelerates the growth of plants. If you plant any seeds in it, they will sprout instantly. True, you first need to prepare the soil. The performer loosens the ground with small rakes, takes several seeds from the box, shows them to the audience, puts them in a vase and closes the ground with rakes. At this time, the assistant gives the magician a beautifully painted thin large silk scarf. It is shown to the audience from all sides and the vase and table are covered so that the edges of the scarf hang down. Stepping aside, the illusionist makes several passes in the direction of the vase. Everyone notices how the handkerchief moves slightly at first, then gradually rises up. Finally, the magician pulls off the veil with a sharp movement, and the audience sees a large beautiful bush of flowers (Fig. 84), which mysteriously grew from seeds planted in a vase.

Box with flower seeds. Focus secret: The main part of the secret of the focus lies in the design of the table. The leg is made of a wide thin-walled copper tube, inside of which there is a device that gives a bush of artificial flowers at the right time (they are made from feathers). The framework of a bush is made of a steel spring wire. Medium, main - from one-millimeter, the rest - from a thinner one. The bush, compactly folded, should freely rise up inside the tube. Best of all, if the flower is spreading, it will make a greater impression on the audience. The flower is pushed out of the tube by a steel spring. It must be very strong to lift the bush up the tube and push it through the hole into the flower vase, where the bouquet opens. On fig. 85, A shows a table in section. Inside the tube bush c, compressed by a spring g; at the lower end of the bush, a small ring d was made on the rod middle wire; a strong nylon thread e is attached to it, with which you can draw the flower bush inside the tube, while compressing the spring. A round plate is put on top of the spring with a hole in the center for the thread. The thread is passed through the legs of the table, through a bracket driven into the floor, and led backstage to the assistant, who at the right moment pulls it towards himself. At this time, a small weight-stopper, tied to a thread, jumps out of a cut in the bottom of the tube, made on the side of a large middle round hole (Fig. 85, B).
Now the thread can move freely and, if it is released, the spring, straightening up, lifts the bush up and drags the thread, which the assistant gradually releases, creating the illusion of a growing flower. If the thread is long, then the table can be taken out from behind the scenes at any time. It is only necessary to carefully check the tension of the thread and make sure that the stopper-weight does not jump out ahead of time from cut B. On fig. 85, B shows a vase in section. A round hole is made in the center of the bottom, into which a tube Z is glued. A bush of flowers from the table passes through this tube inside the vase. The edges of the tube are somewhat lower than the upper edge of the vase. When preparing a vase for demonstration, cover the opening of the tube h with thin paper (it is very good to use used carbon paper for this purpose) and fill it with earth, which must be carefully poured over the paper. Taking the vase from the table, the conjurer must discreetly cover the hole in the table with the seed box so that the audience cannot see it. When placing a vase, make sure that its bottom hole exactly matches the hole in the table lid, for which purpose invisible marks are made on the lid. Raking the ground with a rake, the performer must imperceptibly break through the paper covering the upper hole of the tube Z. This number always makes a great impression on the audience. You should work out all the stages of the show with an assistant, calculate exactly how high the bush should move up. Make a stopper in the right place. It is possible, having verified the length, to make a second thread inside the spring, which will stop the movement of the spring at a certain moment, as soon as the flower bush reaches a predetermined position.
