Focus Description:

At the front of the stage there is a light display table without a tablecloth. The artist takes from him a sheet of colored paper folded in thirds in the form of a package. Having unfolded it, he takes out another sheet of a different color, folded in the same way (Fig. 32).

Having put aside the second sheet - the package, the illusionist with the first unfolded sheet approaches the ramp, shows the audience both sides of it, hits the sheet with his hand - this is an ordinary paper sheet without secrets. Having placed it on the table, the performer takes the previously set aside package and unfolds it - there is another (third) package in it. Having put aside the third package and going out to the ramp, the artist carefully shows the second unfolded sheet to those present, then places it unfolded on the table on top of the first sheet, unfolds the third package, takes out the fourth one, and places the third unfolded on top of the first two. With the fourth sheet of paper, the presenter goes down into the hall, where, unfolding, he shows this sheet to the audience in close proximity.

The artist asks someone to lend him a paper ruble for a few minutes. The borrower personally wraps the banknote in paper and gives this package to the magician. He, holding the package high above his head with two fingers, takes it to the stage. There he wraps it first in the third sheet, then in the second and, finally, in the first. A ruble wrapped in four sheets is placed on the table. Having moved a couple of steps away from the table, the performer performs several “magic” passes over the package, then, slowly, unfolds the packages, places the unfolded sheets one on top of the other on the table, and with the fourth package descends into the hall again, holding it by the corner with two fingers and high above his head so that he is in full view of the public at all times.

While in the audience, the artist pulls up his sleeves, exposing his wrists, solemnly, slowly unwraps the bag and takes out a five-ruble bill. Raising it higher, he shows it to the audience, and then hides it in the breast pocket of his jacket. Addressing the spectator who borrowed the ruble, the magician says: “You understand that I cannot return this money to you, since it was honestly earned by me, but don’t be upset - I will pay you back.” He takes out a blank piece of paper the size of a ruble from his inner pocket, shows it to those present, asks one of them to put it in the middle of a colored sheet and wrap it in a bag. This package, keeping it in sight all the time, the magician takes to the stage, wraps it in three other packages in the manner already described, performs “magic” passes on it, then unfolds it and with the fourth (unopened) package again goes into the hall and approaches that spectator. from whom he took the money, and hands the package he brought into his hands. The spectator stands up and unfolds the package so that everyone present can see it. Instead of the white piece of paper placed in it by the magician, there is a ruble belonging to this spectator. The artist thanks the audience for their help and returns to the stage.

The secret of focus. To make our simple device, we will need double-sided colored durable paper in four different colors. Square sheets are cut out of this paper - the first is 60x60 cm, the second is 54x54 cm, two squares are 48x48 cm, two squares are 42x42 cm. Dividing the side of each square into three equal parts, they are folded into bags (Fig. 33, A). Two bags made of 48x48 cm squares are glued together with their backs, as shown in Figure 33, B. Thus, we have a double bag that opens on both sides, and this is the secret of our device. Each half of this bag contains the smallest bag (folded from sheets 42x42 cm). The artist placed a five-ruble bill in one of these bags in advance, and then wrapped the bag with the secret in two large bags. This is how they lay on the demonstration table when the artist went on stage.

Unfolding the first two packages, the performer showed these sheets to the public with special diligence, since they were the most ordinary - without secrets. He showed the third package only from afar, so as not to “tire the audience,” and, putting it on the table, went down into the hall with the fourth. By handing this sheet into the hands of the viewer, the presenter also did not risk anything, since there were no secrets in it. Returning to the stage, the artist put the bag of money into the bag with the secret and, turning it upside down with the half in which the five-ruble note was hidden, wrapped it in the next two sheets of the bag. And so the ruble borrowed by the viewer “turned” into five. In the same way, an ordinary piece of paper “became” a ruble bill.

With this machine you can also exchange large paper money for smaller ones; enlarge a photo - for this, of course, you need to have two identical photographs of different sizes.

If you make the two devices described here, then with their help it will be possible to show the “flights” from one package to another of postcards, playing cards and other similar items.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

New Toshiba Projection TVs 11.05.2004

Toshiba has announced a new line of 10 widescreen rear projection TVs based on Texas Instrument's HD2+ chip.

All TVs are no thicker than 16 inches, with picture quality comparable to flat-panel plasmas, but at a significant price advantage. Toshiba said that having the built-in Toshiba Advanced Light Engine (TALEN) technology will allow unprecedented quality to be squeezed out of the HD2+ chip.

The new TVs are also equipped with the PixelPure Digital Video Processing Suite, which can process images with up to 6,2 million pixels, which corresponds to the maximum resolution of new products. The screens feature Toshiba's proprietary "TheaterFine" coating, which ensures glare-free and deep blacks.
