Focus Description:

The performer pulls a long rope through his hand, asking the spectator to stop him when he decides to choose any point on the rope. The magician cuts the rope at the point where he was told to stop. Having shown the audience two pieces of rope, the magician complains that the rope is damaged: a long one would be useful on the farm. And as if by magic, the rope instantly reunites, turning into the same long, undamaged rope! The performance can end here, or you can use this trick as a prelude to a series of other tricks with ropes.

Focus secret:

The rope does not require special preparation. All you need is scissors and about two meters of soft rope

1. Show the rope by holding it by opposite ends A and B: end A in your left hand, end B in your right.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

2. With your right hand, pass end B to your left hand between your index and middle fingers. End B should be positioned overlapping end A. Hold end B in place with your thumb.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

3.Grab end A with your right hand.

4.End B is held with the left thumb. As you pass the rope through your hand, invite the spectator to stop you where he wishes.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

5.As you pull the rope past end A, the loop of the rope becomes smaller and smaller. This pulling gives the audience the impression that the viewer is given the freedom to choose where the rope will be cut. In fact, as you can see, it doesn't matter to you which section of the rope he chooses to choose.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

6. When a spectator stops you, release end A and grab the part of the loop that is closest to end B. Ask the spectator to cut the rope between your hands (at point X). The viewer inevitably cuts only a small section of the rope adjacent to end B, and not almost in the center of the rope, as he thinks.

7.As soon as the spectator cuts the rope, release your right hand from it. As a result, the new end, let's call it X2, will hang next to end A. Now you hold in your left hand one short piece and one long piece of rope, the loops of which overlap in the palm of your left hand.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

8. Adjust the rope so that end X is level with end A, and hold them side by side with the fingers of your left hand. It appears to viewers that the left hand is holding two separate long ropes.

9. At this point, draw the audience’s attention to the fact that the ropes are unequal in length, and you are slightly upset by the viewer’s mistake. With these words, grab the end (not the tip) of X2 with your right hand.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

10. Bring the end of X2 close to the end of X1 and take both ends in your right hand.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

11. Holding these two ends firmly together with your right hand, release the rope with your left hand, allowing it to open to its full length: the audience will see that it has instantly recovered from two approximately equal sections into a single one.

Focus Cut and reconnect the rope

Note at the same time: “The trick was not so good,” stretching the restored rope.

Still hiding the length in your right hand, coil the rope and put it in your pocket.

In both the first and second versions of the Cut and Rejoined Rope trick, you, having demonstratively cut the rope into two equal sections (step 13 in the first method and step 8 in the second), secretly hold the loops of the long rope and the short section, which are intertwined with each other. It seems to the audience that you are holding two long ropes. At this moment, when the mutually interlocking loops are hidden in your left hand, you can complete the ending using both the first and second methods of restoring the rope, since they are interchangeable.

If you restore the rope using the second method and want to continue the performance by moving on to other tricks, then you need to get rid of the short section that remains in your right hand. The most natural movement at this moment is to put your hand in your pocket for some object, without letting go of the rope from your hand. When removing your hand with an object from your pocket, forget a short piece of it. The audience will not notice that the long rope is slightly shorter than before. If you use a pocketknife to cut, its place is in your pocket, and you take it out and put it back. In addition, you can get some props required for the next trick. You can reach out your hand with a rope to the table to take something from it, simultaneously leaving a piece on the table, hiding it behind the object lying on it.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

A supercapacitor is 5 times thinner than a sheet of paper 11.04.2015

A team of researchers from the University of California at Berkeley (USA) have developed a supercapacitor that charges incredibly quickly and can compete with a battery in terms of energy storage density.

Such an impressive result was made possible by the use of graphene in combination with manganese dioxide. The supercapacitor is only one-fifth of a sheet of paper thick, and its production technology does not require specific laboratory conditions or extreme temperatures.

The latest device can demonstrate an energy of 42 Wh / l, which is quite comparable to a lead-acid battery. In addition, it charges much faster and can withstand 10 recharge cycles. During the tests, he showed the ability to charge from the energy generated by the solar battery during the day, keep the charge until the evening and power powerful LED lamps throughout the night.

The prospects for the use of such a supercapacitor are encouraging. It remains to wait until the gadget becomes more like a device for commercial use than a student science project.
