Dassault Aviation and Airbus have signed the first research contract for the Future Air Combat System (SCAF), which will focus on next-generation combat aircraft, the companies said in a statement Wednesday.

The launch of joint research was announced by French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly and her colleague from Germany Ursula von der Leyen. The two-year research work is expected to start on February 20, 2019 and will cost €65 million.

"Today, in the presence of a colleague from Germany, I notify you of the first contract on the SCAF concept and architecture," said Parley. In turn, von der Leyen drew attention to the fact that France and Germany are "deepening cooperation in their own interests and in the interests of the European Union."

As part of the research, it is planned to determine the size and design of the future military aircraft, as well as the maximum speed, technical equipment, etc.
