Focus Description:

The girl from the audience is given the top card of the shuffled deck. This card, the jack, represents her. Another spectator, a young man, is given the second card of the deck, which turns out to be a lady, she should represent him. Both spectators hold their cards face down.

The magician makes the cards change places, so that the boy, as it should be, is represented by a jack, and the girl by a lady.

Props:

A specially composed deck, including an extra queen of diamonds from exactly the same deck.

Focus secret:

This trick requires a fabricated deck, a double rise, and a "card in the palm" move, so it's a great trick to show off all the skills you've learned.

1. You will need another queen from exactly the same deck as the one you will be using. Before performing the trick, arrange the deck so that the top three cards are a queen of diamonds, a jack of clubs, and another queen of diamonds. Ask a young man and woman in the audience to help you. Let's call them Artem and Lucy. Tell the audience, "Just so you know there's no trick here, we'll shuffle the deck well."

2. Perform a fake shuffle, keeping the sequence queen-jack-queen at the top of the deck.

3. Make a gap with your finger under the top two cards. Say, "First, I want to ask Lucy to represent the card at the top of the deck." Perform a double lift by turning the "card" over and placing it face up on the deck so that the audience and Lucy can see that it is the jack of clubs. Say, "It's the jack of clubs." Place the "card" face down on top of the deck again.

4. Say, "Now, Lucy, for the purposes of our experiment, you must represent the jack of clubs. I want to ask you to look after him for a minute or two. Give me your left hand." Place the top card of the deck (which is actually the Queen of Diamonds) face down in Luce's hand. Say: "Now please cover the jack of clubs with your right hand and keep it safe while I deal with Artyom."

5. False shuffle again and, hiding behind it, again make a gap under the top two cards.

6. Turn to Artem and say: "Now, Artem, let's see what card you will represent." Say, "How strange, you are the queen of diamonds. But don't be offended (as you say this, turn the card face down again and place it on top of the pack, aligning it) because this fits very well with what I'm about to do. Give me your hand, you will hold the lady of diamonds for a few minutes." Place the Queen of Diamonds (which is actually the Jack of Clubs) face down in Artyom's hand and ask him to cover the top with the other hand.

7. Now say: "It will seem strange, but the fact that Lucy turned out to be the jack of clubs, and Artyom the queen of diamonds, is a great success for me: in connection with this, my little task is just to swap them. You are now probably You think it's impossible, but it's not. So, Lucy, you represent the jack of clubs, don't you? (Lucy agrees.) I'm sure you'd rather be the queen of diamonds, wouldn't you? (Lucy agrees again. ) Come on, take a look at your card and find out who you represent."

8. Lucy turns over the card. It's a tambourine lady! Turn to Artyom and say: "Well, Artyom, I bet you'll be happy if you don't have to be a lady this evening (Artyom agrees.) your card, you will see that I have done it." Artem looks at his card and sees that it is the jack of clubs.

9. Take the cards from Lucy and Artyom and return them to the deck, saying: "Fine, I knew that I could do it, but we were lucky that two cards turned out to be a queen and a jack. I could not have wished for more."

10. You will notice that if you did everything according to the instructions, you will end up with a deck containing two queens of diamonds in your hands: this is not good, since you will want to use this deck in the following tricks.

11. Also, someone might ask to see the deck, and it's better for you to give it and convince the audience that the deck is standard. So after you let Artem hold the card, during the monologue about how lucky you are that two cards turned out to be a queen and a jack, continue to align the cards in your hands. When Lucy opens her card, everyone will look at her, and you can discreetly hide the top card in your palm, which, of course, is the extra queen of diamonds. Lower your hand, and then, when Artyom reveals his card and is in the spotlight, quietly put your right hand in your pocket and get rid of the card in the palm of your hand. When you take the cards from Lucy and Artyom, you will have a standard deck of cards in your hands that anyone can examine (but do not offer this yourself, and if you are asked, pretend to be reluctant to do so). In any case, if you did everything right, you will have a puzzled and admiring audience in front of you.
