Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

FiLIP watch for monitoring children 19.10.2013

AT&T and Filip Technologies have unveiled the FiLIP wrist watch, which aims to help parents track their children's location and keep in touch with them.

The novelty has a bright design, simple operation and limited functionality. Children will only be able to call five pre-defined numbers and receive short text messages.

FiLIP provides parents with the ability to determine the location of the watch: for this, information from the built-in GPS receiver, as well as nearby cellular repeaters, is used. The data is transferred to a cloud service, after which it is displayed on a map on an adult's smartphone.

Parents can define safe zones, when outside of which the watch will automatically send a notification. By the way, information about the current coordinates can be transmitted to adults at certain intervals - from 3 to 60 minutes.

An emergency call button is provided on the FiLIP case. When it is pressed, the watch sends data about the current coordinates, starts recording sound from the microphone and tries to dial all the numbers indicated in the memory.

Sales of FiLIP will begin within the next few months.
