Macronix has introduced a new generation of OctaBus memory interface. According to the manufacturer, the development is well suited for IoT and automotive electronics. The original version of OctaFlash, introduced in 2015, provided a data transfer rate of 400 MB/s using eight lanes. The new option is suitable not only for Serial NOR flash memory (OctaFlash), but also for RAM (OctaRAM). The use of a bus with common I/O lines simplifies the design and unifies printed circuit boards. OctaRAM is said to provide performance comparable to DDR2.

One of the strengths of the OctaBus implementation is the simplification of MCP products that combine different types of memory chips.
