Focus Description:

This trick requires a wide-edged handkerchief. Cut a piece about 6-7 cm long from a wire hanger (or take a straight piece of stiff wire). Insert the wire into one corner of the scarf edge opening. Sew the wire, securing it with a thread in one place. Fold up the handkerchief and put it in your pocket. You will also need a regular metal spoon. You are ready to show a wonderful trick that is not afraid of the close proximity of the audience.

Focus secret:

Take the prepared handkerchief out of your pocket and spread it out in front of you on the table. The corner at which the wire is sewn should be directed towards the audience. Starting from this corner, fold the handkerchief in such a way that a "pocket" is formed, open on your side.

Focus Ghost

Make a gesture with your right hand as if you caught "something" in the air, and explain to the audience that you just got a small "invisible ghost" in your hand. The audience sees that your hand is completely empty and you just pretend that there is something in it.

Slightly lift the three folded corners with your left hand, opening the pocket just enough for your right hand to fit into it, as if giving an invisible ghost the opportunity to hide in the pocket. The right hand is still in the pocket.

Place a secret wire sewn up in the corner vertically. After making sure that the wire is firmly inserted, remove your right hand from your pocket and move your left hand away from the handkerchief.

The wire will stand, held by the weight of the fabric. The general impression will be that something is left in the folds of the handkerchief. With your left hand, lift the corner closest to you and cover the open side of the pocket with it: you have locked the "ghost" in a trap.

To convince everyone that a "ghost" is present, place the palm of your right hand on the handkerchief, gently pressing the top end of the wire through the fabric. Then, in a circular motion with a little pressure, create the illusion that there is something rounded with a certain geometric shape under the scarf.

Focus Ghost

The final proof of the presence of a ghost will be the following movement: take a spoon in your right hand and hit it several times on the end of the wire. The corresponding sound of hitting the wire will finally convince the audience - not only visually, but also aurally - that you really have caught a ghost. Put the spoon aside and quickly open the handkerchief to let the ghost escape. Immediately show that there is nothing in the hands and in the scarf.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Paralyzed rats cured 11.06.2012

Rats with severe spinal cord injury that completely lost connection with the brain, and therefore lost control of their lower legs, learned to run after a couple of weeks of chemical and electrical stimulation of the spinal cords and special training using a robotic belt. This is reported in an article by a group of Swiss and French researchers published in the latest issue of the journal Science. It is possible that in the near future the same method can be successfully applied to paralyzed people.

A few years ago, the same group of scientists succeeded in waking up the spinal cord, cut off from the brain, and getting a paralyzed rat to move its legs on a moving walkway. They did this by pumping the sensors of the spinal neurons with chemical stimulants and making them ready to walk. Then, through the electrodes implanted in the spinal cord, they passed a long electrical impulse, which was perceived as a signal for action, and the rat began to walk.

It was an unconscious action, not dependent on the brain. Then scientists changed tactics. They ditched the moving walkway and instead placed the mouse on a platform that had a chocolate treat at the other end. In the vertical state, the rat was supported by a robot belt suspended from above, which turned on only when the animal began to fall. Aroused by the described method, the spinal cord revived the legs, and the rat, believing that it could walk by itself, tried to rush to the chocolate. At the same time, the growth rate of nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord, spurred on by this desire, increased dramatically, and after two or three weeks of such training, the fibers found a bypass and connected. First, the rat took one conscious step, then two, and, after a while, walked on its own. And not only walked, but also ran, climbed stairs and avoided obstacles.

Professor Grégoire Courtin, who heads this study, says that artificially paralyzed rats are XNUMX% rehabilitated. He is optimistic about applying the same method to paralyzed people, and although he does not promise anything definite, he plans to start clinical trials in a Zurich hospital in the next two to three years.
