The node, the scheme of which is shown in the figure, can work as a balanced mixer when receiving and as a balanced modulator when transmitting. When receiving an RF signal from a bandpass filter formed by elements L1, L2, C1-C3, through the coupling coil L3, it enters in antiphase to the gates of transistors V1, V2, and the local oscillator voltage goes to the sources of transistors through capacitors C6-C8.

In this case, an IF signal (500 kHz) is allocated at the output of the node.

When working on transmission, a low-frequency signal from transformer T1 is supplied in antiphase to the gates of transistors V1 and V2, and a local oscillator signal with a frequency of 500 kHz is fed to their sources. At the mixer output, a DSB signal appears.

Capacitors C4, C5 and chokes L4, L5 separate high-frequency and low-frequency circuits.

Inductors L4 and L5 are wound on MLT-0,5 resistors with a resistance of at least 1 MΩ with a PEL 0.07 wire (200 turns). Transformer T1 - transitional from any pocket receiver, T2 is wound on an annular (outer diameter 7 ... 12 mm) ferrite magnetic circuit with a permeability of 400 ... 1000. Each winding contains 34 turns of PEL 0,09 wire. The winding is carried out immediately with three wires twisted into a bundle.

This mixer can be used in the "Radio-76" transceiver instead of the ring diode one. In this case, the L3 coil should contain 20 turns of PEL 0.14 wire. It is wound over the L2 coil.

Establishing a node comes down to balancing it when working on transmission with resistor R2. At the same time, maximum suppression of the carrier frequency is achieved.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Traco TEC 2(WI) and TEC 3(WI) DC/DC Converters 28.11.2021

Traco has updated its line of 2W and 3W regulated DC/DC converters with the new TEC_2, TEC_2WI, TEC_3 and TEC_3WI families with 2:1 and 4:1 input widths (for models suffix "WI").

New generation converters have improved circuitry and modern components. The production is fully automated, thanks to which it was possible to increase the efficiency of products and reduce costs without compromising quality and reliability. The transducers are manufactured in a standard SIP-8 housing, have 1600 V DC input-output isolation, in accordance with EN 62368-1. These DC/DC converters do not require a minimum load as they operate over the full 0...100% load range.

The range of converters includes models with an extended input voltage range in the range of low values - 4,5 ... 13,2 V and 4,5 ... 18 V (for models with the ending "WI"). The permissible operating temperature range is -40...90/95°C. The converters have output protection against short circuit and it is possible to remotely turn on/off (CTRL output). These families are intended for a wide range of applications in industrial devices, instrumentation, telecommunication systems and other applications where high reliability and long life cycle are required, combined with optimal component cost.
