Focus Description:

The magician takes a glass filled with milk from his table. That there is really milk in the glass, the audience is convinced when the artist splashes it a little. Then the artist takes a metal cylinder (cap) from the table and shows it to the audience.

Viewers see that the cylinder is through and has no secrets. The artist passes a flower through the cylinder, which easily passes and pierces the floor. Holding a glass of milk in his hand, the performer puts a cylinder on it, covers it with his free hand and turns it upside down.

The magician goes to the audience, approaches the first row, removes his hand from the bottom of the cylinder and pretends to want to spray the audience. The spectators, of course, are frightened, but their fears are in vain, since the artist's hand is completely dry. The milk disappeared, and with the milk the glass disappeared. The audience is convinced of this when the artist brings the cylinder to his eyes and looks through it at the audience. For greater clarity, the performer again passes a flower through this cylinder.

Focus secret:

For this trick you will need a glass and a metal cylinder. Both of them are secret. At first glance, both the glass and the cylinder are the most ordinary (Fig. 1); the glass is filled with milk, and a flower passes freely through the cylinder:

The glass consists of internal and external, their walls are connected. The distance between the walls at the bottom is 1,5 cm. It is filled with milk. The height of the glass is 8-9 cm, the diameter is 5 cm (Fig. 2).

The cylinder is made from thin sheet iron. It should be twice as high as the glass and a little larger in diameter so that it can be freely put on the glass. The cylinder has a secret device - an inner cylinder, which is half shorter than the main cylinder and conical in shape (Fig. 3)

The cylinders are made from the same material. One edge of the inner cylinder is tightly soldered to the middle of the outer one and smoothly polished. Its other edge should freely enter the middle of the glass, into its through hole. When showing the cylinder to the audience, the performer must turn it towards him with a double edge (Fig. 4).

When the cylinder and glass of milk are shown to the audience, the performer, holding the glass in the palm of one hand, puts the cylinder on it with the other. The walls of the inner cylinder will enter the through middle of the glass. When the glass is turned upside down together with the cylinder, the milk remains between the walls of the cylinders and does not spill out.

When the artist again shows the cylinder to the audience, putting it to his eyes along with the glass hidden in it, the audience sees only a through hole.

To enhance the impression, the performer once again passes a flower through the middle of the cylinder and finishes the demonstration of this interesting trick.

This trick requires the impeccable execution of props and masterful display.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Stem cells help cure alcoholism 20.03.2018

Researchers at the University of Chile found that a single dose of human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) significantly reduced voluntary alcohol intake in alcohol-addicted rats.

Chronic drug use, including alcohol, cocaine, and opiates, is associated with increased inflammation of nerve tissue. Other studies (in both humans and rats) have also shown that this inflammation can increase alcohol cravings.

Because mesenchymal stem cells are relatively large, they typically do not reach the brain when given intravenously. In the new experiment, the team reduced the size of the cells by up to 75%, allowing them to better enter the brain. The tool was tested on specially bred rats consuming large amounts of alcohol.

As a result, a single small dose of MSCs was able to reduce brain inflammation and oxidative stress in animals that consumed chronic alcohol. Within 48 hours, the rats reduced their alcohol consumption by a record 90%. In addition, alcohol-induced neuroinflammation was significantly reduced. The effect lasted 3 to 5 weeks after the injection.

The next step is to move on to human clinical trials, verify the results, and develop a new effective treatment for alcoholism.
