The temperature of the cooling mixture, consisting of 100 g of snow (or ice) and 150 g of potassium chloride hydrate reaches -45 ° C. And what about in summer, when there is no snow and ice? In the warm season, you can use such chemical compounds that, when dissolved in water, absorb heat, thereby helping to reduce the water temperature to - 35 ° C. Of course, the water must be cold, and the following compounds must be taken in the following proportion (by weight ) in relation to water:

ammonium chloride 3
sodium nitrate 5
ammonium nitrate 10
sodium sulfide + hydrochloric acid 40
ammonium thiocyanate or potassium 15

In order to avoid large losses of cold, it is advisable to prepare the solution in a thermos.

When finished, pour the solution into a cup and remove water from it by evaporating. The substance remaining after evaporation can be reused for experiments.

A carbon nanotube in a silicon dioxide shell has become a reliable emitter of single photons.

The level of technology that physicists have at their disposal makes it possible to work with single smallest particles of matter. The next task is to learn how to work not with any, but with a certain particle. Here, for example, is a photon. To ensure the security of quantum communication systems, it is required to emit a single quantum of light per emission event - having encoded information with it, you can not worry that an attacker will read it imperceptibly, the trace will always remain in the form of a disappeared photon.

However, communication systems require infrared photons with a wavelength of 1,3-1,5 microns - they travel best through light guides. And the existing generators - quantum dots or vacancy centers in diamond - cannot cope with this work. Nanotubes seem to be an ideal source, but they emit only at low temperatures and, in addition, are subject to fluctuations. Convinced of this, the materials scientists gave up on these carbon cylinders.

However, not all. Han Htun and Stephen Durn and colleagues from the US Department of Energy's Center for Integrated Technologies deposited a layer of silicon dioxide on the surface of a carbon nanotube. The interaction of carbon with oxygen dramatically changed the properties of the tube: fluctuations disappeared from it, and the photon acquired the desired wavelength. Since silicon dioxide is constantly used in microelectronics, the technology of its application is well developed, and a nanotube in SiO2 clothes can be perfectly integrated into various electronic devices.
