Of course, plasticine can be bought at the store. Well, what of it? You can also buy a radio receiver, however, how many people pore over radio circuits!

For home-made plasticine, the only scarce raw material will apparently be oleic acid C17Н33COOH. However, it is probably in the school laboratory (and in general it is a very common acid, which is part of almost all fats). From it we get zinc salt - zinc oleate. To 35 parts (by weight) of heated oleic acid, add in small portions 5 parts of dry zinc white (you can take homemade pigment). Apply each new portion of whitewash only after the foam disappears from the addition of the previous one. If you didn’t have zinc white, you can replace them with ordinary chalk - then you will get calcium oleate. True, the quality of plasticine will be somewhat worse.

To the resulting syrupy oleate, add with constant stirring 18 parts of a mixture of equal amounts of oil and wax. To prepare it, melt the wax and add to it, stirring vigorously, liquid oil, such as vaseline. We emphasize once again - all components must be thoroughly mixed, the quality of the finished plasticine largely depends on this. As for wax, it would be better to take natural, bee, but in extreme cases it can be replaced with stearin (but not with paraffin). Stearin, on the other hand, can be easily prepared from laundry soap, as described in the "First Experiments" section.

When the mixture of oleate, oil and wax (or stearin) is ready, add to it 23 parts of sulfur, ground into a fine powder (you can take a pharmacy preparation), 15 parts of dry fine clay, sifted through a sieve, and 4 more parts of some mineral paints. You can, for example, take a mummy (iron oxide Fe2O3) - you already know how to cook this substance (do not forget about intensive and constant stirring). Once again, carefully stir the finished mixture and roll it out with a rolling pin on a sheet of plywood or tin. Plasticine is ready.

Here's just what a nuisance: zinc oleate smells not the best. But it can be drowned out with perfume. When mixing the starting products, add a little (a few drops) of a pleasant-smelling substance, such as rose or lavender oil, or at least cologne.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Cosmetics 2000 years old 10.12.2003

During excavations in the London district of Southwark, a sensational find was made: in the ruins of a Roman temple, archaeologists discovered a round tin box. When it was opened, there was an oily white substance inside, and a sulphurous-cheesy smell hit the nose.

Scientists have found nothing but an ancient Roman cosmetic cream. He is about 2000 years old, but he looks like the hostess opened the box just yesterday. On the surface, even traces of a finger that scooped up a fraction of the cream are visible.

This is the first time that such ancient cosmetics have been discovered in such a state of preservation. Archaeologists are now awaiting the results of a chemical analysis of the cream.
