Pendulums with a hippopotamus and a bird. Physical experiments

You've certainly seen a lot of things swing. The hammock is swinging. The chandelier sways in the draft. And in the watch workshop - how many clocks with swinging pendulums are there! It's just eyes wide open. And pendulums swing differently. Tick-tock, tick-tock, - a light, small pendulum of walkers is in a hurry. So! So! - solidly confirms the large and heavy pendulum of the clock standing on the floor. It swings much less frequently.
Why do pendulums have different swing frequencies? Let's check. Instead of pendulums, you can take any two bodies of different weights. Again, I took my favorite figures: a heavy hippo and a light bird.
Hang the hippopotamus on a thread about 1 m long, and the bird on a thread 25 cm long. Now swing them not very hard. You will see that the light bird flutters to the right - to the left, to the right - to the left. A heavy, solid hippo sways about twice as slow.
It would seem that everything is clear. A heavy body oscillates slowly, a light body oscillates quickly. But do not rush to draw conclusions. Do the same experiment by changing the threads. You will see that a hippopotamus tied to a short "bird" thread will lose all its solidity. He will fuss, hurry, will, like a bird, flutter right and left, right and left!
But the bird, suspended on a long "hippopotamus" thread, will take on the habit of a hippopotamus. She will begin to swing solidly, importantly, slowly. It turns out that the swing frequency does not depend on weight at all. It depends on the length of the pendulum! The small pendulum of the walkers swings so fast not because it is light, but because it is short!

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
Petgugu Global cat litter
15.04.2024
Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>
The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive New cable gateways from Netgear
22.02.2014
Netgear has introduced two new cable gateways. The new devices provide, on the one hand, fast Internet access, and, on the other hand, high-speed WiFi, allowing cable network subscribers to get rid of the need to pay for modem rental every month, the company told CNews.
With the release of new devices, Netgear's line of cable modems and gateways includes three devices: the AC1750 WiFi Cable Modem Router (C6300), which combines a cable modem operating at speeds up to 680 Mbps in one device, and a Gigabit WiFi router that provides speeds up to 1750 Mbps; cable modem router N450 WiFi - a gateway that provides cable modem speeds up to 350 Mbps and WiFi speeds in the 2,4 GHz band up to 450 Mbps; cable modem CMD31T DOCSIS 3.0, for direct connection to a high-speed cable network of an Internet provider.
The Netgear N450 WiFi Cable Modem Router is now available at retailers and online stores. MSRP in the US is $119.99.
The C6300 cable modem router will ship in the second quarter of 2014 at a suggested retail price of $219.99.
