"Quietly and smoothly swinging" - this is the name of one old waltz. It sings about the swing, which is so nice to swing. But not only living people like to swing. Cut out two people from paper according to our drawing. These little men are also great fans of swinging. Only they themselves do not know how to make a swing. We'll have to help them. We will make for them a swing not simple, but with an engine, so that they can swing themselves. And this engine will not be electric, not steam, not gasoline, but ... stearin!

Haven't heard of this one? Now you will hear! The main part of the stearin engine is a piece of an ordinary stearin candle 10-12 cm long. If your candle is longer, cut off the excess.

In the middle of a piece of candle stick two pins, one against the other. The middle must be found more precisely. Do this with a ruler with millimeter divisions. Place two identical glasses on a large frying pan or on a baking sheet and put pins on their edges. Only first lay a sheet of thick paper or cardboard, which is not a pity to drip with stearin.

The stearin engine is ready, it remains only to attach little men to it. Strengthen them with thin wire, as shown in the picture. You see, the little men are sitting quite far from the ends of the candle. Because they are afraid of fire.

funny swing

Now light the end of the candle that is leaning down. When the candle swings and the burning end rises, light the other end. Soon the stearin engine will work with might and main, and the little men will swing to their fullest. Look closely at the operation of the engine and try to understand why the candle is swinging.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Google is looking for female programmers 26.06.2014

Google launched the Made with Code initiative to get more American schoolgirls into programming. Its author was Susan Wojcicki, sister of Anna Wojcicki, wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin. In February 2014, Susan Wojcicki was appointed by Google to be the CEO of YouTube.

"My daughter is of school age. She instinctively knows how to play games, watch videos and chat with friends. I mean, she understands technology. And she loves using it. But she has never shown any interest in using technology to do anything." create. That's why I decided to create said project," shared Susan Wojcicki.

As part of Made with Code, Google plans to spend $50 million on teacher rewards and funding for various US projects dedicated to teaching programming.

Instructors will be able to earn rewards for their work at institutions such as Codecademy and Khan Academy, which teach programming in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python and Ruby.

Participants in the Khan Academy project, for example, receive a $100 reward for each student who completes a programming course, and a $500 bonus for four students. These funds can then be used by educators to purchase learning materials at DonorsChoose.org.

As part of Made with Code, a web portal of the same name was also created. It invites you to get acquainted with the Blocky constructor, which allows you to build applications in a web browser using blocks. On the site you can watch a video about how some girls and women are already using computer programs in work, research and creativity.

Now at Google, only 17% of the technical staff are women. According to the American Association of University Women, less than 1% of high school students are interested in a professional career in programming. At the same time, over the past 30 years, the number of girls in the United States graduating from educational institutions in a specialty related to computer technology has fallen from 40% to 14%.
